No it's not normal if your engine is stock it should idle ~550 W/AC on and in gear.
Way too high. Is that with A/C on or off? A/C on kicks the idle a little higher, I believe, but not that high. Also, makes me wonder if the throttle body is sticking a little. Hard to believe the computer would change by itself.

With a 2.73 axle ratio, at 750 RPM, assuming zero slip of the torque converter (which is not realistic), your speed on stock tires and wheels is 7 MPH. Adding in the slip, you shouldn't be above 5. With a 3.15 ratio, you're down to 6 MPH w/ no slip.
3rd gear at 750 RPM is 22 MPH. There's no way you're in 3rd gear after coming to a stop.
Something is wrong with this picture, mathematically speaking.
How much does your A4 "creep" in gear at idle???
I have a '98 that idles around 750 and I have to keep a good amount of brake pressure to keep it from moving even on a slight incline. If I let it go it will get up to about 25MPH. Is this about normal??
Mine idles at 950 and needs to go up. No creep at all as well with the 11" 3400 nitrous converter. When I turn on the A/C it just about kills the engine. New engine only has around 500 miles on it. Damn cam and supercharger. Will fine tune the idle when I do my high speed tuning.
I checked the TB an found "some" black gunk inside which I cleaned out. Everything else looked OK.
Idle dropped to 700rpm in drive with A/C on.
I will watch it real close an see if idle speed continues to go up before I go the shop routine.

My idle in drive is ~600 if I take my foot of the brake while in drive on level ground it will creep a little, never really tested to see how fast it will go. On a steep hill I have no forward motion on a slight incline it will creep a little. I have 3:15's in the rear.
I have a 2000 A4 with dyno tune and 3:42 gears and it idles at 600 in drive and barely creeps maybe 6 miles an hour in drive and shift points and line pressures have all be done. fyi.
Got a chance to check mine yesterday on the way home from work. It idles at ~600 RPM in gear and creeps along at ~5 mph on a level surface. It's an A4, all stock.
OK my earlier tests after cleaning the TB were done in the garage.
I just took it out on the road and everything seems to be OK for now.
Idle speed is around 600/625, A/C on, in Drive
Idle speed forward is around 6-8 mph.
Even though I could not feel anything inside the TB it must have been something holding it open just a small amount.
Thanks for all of the input/help
Julian

I would say maybe mine will get to 5mph on level ground. I have to apply next to nothing to keep the car still. If you think yours will go 25 I would have to say that is not normal at all.
nothing to do with my vette but I've found a great variance in the creep on automatics. I had a 96 taurus which would end up going so fast with just letting off the brake that the tranny would shift into 2nd without ever touching the throttle. I currently also have a 97 SHO which as been modified with a tune and some other things but it has nowhere near the automatic pull when it gear with no throttle. I never knew what to make of that.
