2 years ago I decided that keeping my son in college was more important than my dream car. So I sold my 98 Corvette to use the money to keep him in school. Now that he is out I really have Corvette fever bad . Bad part is because of the school loans (which he cant paid yet) and my wife not working. I stuck with seeing great deals and feeling really down not having a Corvette. I really miss the feeling I had driving that car. I can get one maybe in 2 years but this waiting is killing me. So anyone have this happen or know of a way that I can feel better until I get my Dream car back
be patient, you will get your dream back and the loans will someday be gone and the sun will shine your being a great giving dad will be repaid someday
I can sympathize with you as I have a tuition bill on my desk for Boston College that is a killer.
Add to the fact that my work situation has sucked for two years and has actually gotten worse this year.......
Fortunately we own everything we have and we will weather the storm.
I get sick of saying it to myself, but hang in there as things will improve, eventually.
Good luck.
We know how you feel. Youngest son graduated May 09 with student loans. He got a job July 09, started making his own student loan payments. And momma got another vette (and dad). Hang in there!

Hang on as it takes time. Good parents make sacrifices. Forever I wanted a corvette and everyone in my family always knew it from the time they could walk/understand what a sports car was...
In time, I got my first vette in 04 when my last child graduated from college. I put six of those kids thru school and when the last one finished, I bought my 04. Now I'm on my second one 01 vert and the kids still love to see dad drive up in the car. We did it as a family and the kids still know today, their education was always priority one in our house.

You did what you had to do to help out your son - I can't think of a better reason to give up a Vette. I know it is hard being without one, but hang in there - you'll have another one in the garage before you know it.
Thanks guys for the kind words I feel much better just have to wait and hang in there
One thing I would do before I bought my vette, I would go test drive some vettes that I was interested in even if I knew that I was a couple years from being able to pull the trigger. This was something that I did on a Saturday or during luch hour at work or whatever. I got to know exactly which type of vette I wanted well in advance and I got to be around them for free--even if it was just for a bit.
I also rented the Hertz vette for a weekend 1 yr prior to getting my vette. I went to car shows to look at them, surfed auto trader, read about them now and from press releases when they were new.
Good luck and you will be back and your son is a better man for the help you gave him!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets hope your son realizes the extent of your sacrifice!!You can take some solace in the the fact you did the right thing!! Maybe when he is rich and successful he'll buy you a new one for fathers day!!

This is superb advice!!
I'd like to add: I've been in the Corvette hobby since 1992. There has ALWAYS been an ample supply of excellent used Corvettes available. Now, with the internet, access is even better. So while you may have to wait a bit longer, there will plenty of superb Corvettes from which to choose when you're ready to buy!

Yes actually this does, in fact sound like good advice. Living vicariously throught the Vettes belonging to other might just be what the doctor ordered.
I can easily see how this behavioural approach to your dilema could serve as an effective remedy in helping to assuage your fears during those times when the melancholy of not having a Vette of your own becomes overwhelming. The therapeutic effects of virtual Corvette ownership described above, as ephemeral as it may be, may afford you the strength and stamina you need in order to survive these "dry" years.
Rx for gvette98
Test drive at a Corvette dealership once a week to be taken without meals We don't want you to vomit going WOT after just having eaten a meal.
Contraindicaiton Beware of 2010 Corvette Grand Sport. A drug this strong could lead to addiction and overdose.
I had Vette withdraws too. After my Z06 was totaled, I was driving my old 300zx around again. A couple days after the accident I was cruising down the street in my beater 300zx when a C6Z06, C5Z06 and C6 coupe pulled up surrounding me at a light. It was insult to injury.
You did the right thing, now make your son buy you a Vette.
I'd be ashamed of myself if my Dad had to sell something he enjoyed just to take care of my education, it would show a complete lack of responsibility on the young adult.
Imagine having to shoulder that shame........oh but I got an education, and my dad doesn't mind driving a beater.
