My EX-tuner (Henderson Performance Technologies, HPT, New Braunfels, TX) told me I had piston slap at 5k rpms and higher when WOT. The car would start breaking up bad. Turns out she was outta fuel Not sure how it made it on those pulls but I made my own restrictor out of duct tape and it could pull clear to rev limiter. My current tuner got it on their dyno and realized the issue, installed a Racetronix fuel system and VIOLA!!! "Piston slap" was gone
Yeah... It's funny when I pull up in parking lots (usually after driving on the freeway for some time) some people mention they could hear the piston slap. I ask them how that's possible since the motor is hot. Some people don't know anything about motors or what piston slap is and pull random comments out of their butts.

Huh? What are you talking about? Piston slap is absolutely, positively, most assuredly, 100% possible with a hot motor.

if you're speaking in general terms, yes piston slap is entirely possible with a hot motor. if you're talking about my ls1 car that has piston slap noise when cold, then it goes away when the motor warms up, and someone says "i hear the piston slap noise", then no.
i think the latter is what scm was talking about.
Piston slap is caused by the material difference between the piston and the sleeve. There was some room added between them because they expand from heat at different rates due to the different metals they're made out of.

You know what piston slap is, right? If your motor is hot and the metals have expanded, you may have *some* piston slap, but it won't be enough to hear if any at all. With the right lubrication, you shouldn't have any piston slap while the motor is at it's operating temperatures.

I think I said earlier - I believe most everyone on this forum knows what 'piston slap' is. It's a very simple concept to grasp, i.e., the piston being slightly loose in the bore.
The engine could be red hot and you could still have piston slap, IF there were excessive clearances between the piston skirt and cylinder wall.
I have a 98 and never heard of the famous piston slap issue. what years have this problem I've heard that the 2001 have oil consumtion problems but never heard of piston slap. I've never heard piston slap on my vette never

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
