other than taking my car out for a nice dinner (at a place with a valet that will park it right under his nose (for a fee of course), i rarely if ever take the car to a mall or shopping center or diner where it has to parked in a crowded lot. it has never seen the home depot or movie theater parking lots and i never plan to change that. since it's not my DD, it's not an issue. if i found myself in the situation, like you, i would park as far away from the maddening crowds as possible and hope that the traffic didn't filter it's way out to my location.
While I agree with you to some extent, I do not think the abuse is wide spread... of course they will always be abusers.. But because a person does not appear to be handicapped don't mean they aren't. Many people with bad hearts, or lung disease get a legal handicapped badge. but people look at their gate and say Oh thats not a handicapped person..
To me, if the person can walk in the store then they can walk the extra 25 feet instead of parking in a handicap spot.
The sign on the handicapped spot is for someone with a wheelchair....not for someone who has trouble walking....
I not only park far away from the crowd, but I also park with one side next to an island. That way at least one side is protected if the lot starts filling up.
The city where we live isn't too crowded and most folks are pretty respectful. I just park it where ever. If there is a spot on end or a place that looks less likely for damage I'll take it. Otherwise, I just pick a space where I can actually open that huge door and get out without falling on the ground.
Honestly the door length is the best reason to park in the back forty. I figured though that out there you make your car a target for jerks, gawkers and shopping carts...
I always make a point to park out in BFE or by another nice car also out in BFE.
I figure if you park next to a Porsche, that's a 50% less chance (1 side of the car) that you will get a "ding" since they will most likely treat your ride with respect
Well, I have a couple ways I park depending on how long I am staying. The first one (planning to stay a while) I usually find the corner parking spot were there is a median on one side of my vette and ofcourse no one car part infront of me or behind me. So limited to someone parking on the passenger side. I also usually get close to the median so tha who ever park on my passenger side can open their door with enough clearance.
Or I park far way and walk.
If it is a very quick I try to find high end cars and park beside them
I park in the very back anyway. I don't like to play the parking lot game of circling around and waiting forever for a decent spot. I used to do it in my 99 explorer its not just a vette thing. I got two some what good knees I can walk just fine.
