As long as there have been multiple generations of Corvettes, owners of generations other than the current have always nit-picked the newer car.
"The butt is too big, the butt is chopped off, the front looks funny, I don't like the headlights", etc.....I think you get my point.
I love both of my C5's - but I love the C6 for one big reason. It represents the continuation of the Corvette. These cars must evolve and constantly improve in order to survive. New competitors are cropping up in the most unlikely of places.....just look at the new 2011 Mustang 5.0. 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, almost 1g on the skidpad - all for about $15K less than a base C6. Like Ford or hate Ford - is the Corvette still the "best bang for the buck?"
Corvette must improve to remain viable and desirable.
In the future I think you'll see smaller Corvettes with smaller displacement power plants, possibly utilizing forced induction to retain the horsepower and torque ratings of today's engines.
And I guarantee when the next generation is unveiled and released for sale - C6 owners will be starting threads just like this one....
I don't like the styling of the C6. The huge exposed lights and the radiator grille look awful together, the butt was chopped off, and the car is taller as well. The styling is going the wrong direction

I notice from head on, compared to the c5, the C6 has this kind of awkward lanky feel to it. Kind of like the way a lot of cars looked head on in the 80s.
However, with the Z06 body it is absolutely perfect. It adds JUST the right details to make the c6 a very appealing and aggressive looking car.

Although the c6z looks much better than a regular C6, I prefer a suped up C5.

Yes. Early Precision Red car. Z51 6 speed. Beautiful car but too many problems. I know they have improved but I don't like the push button ignition and doors with no keys, especially in a car that is a notorious battery eater.
As a Corvette Technician, I have seen and driven them all. Personally I think the C5 is my favorite generation. The difference in performance between the LS1 and LS2 is minimal, in fact my STOCK 03 M6 Coupe hit a 12.8 1/4 mile, and many LS2 owners struggle to get 12's.
The only C6 I would consider is a C6Z (any year), and anything else with an LS3. The LS3 is a beast, and it gets even better with a tune. Personally I can't stand the passive locks and push start ignition. Most of the time the door takes 2 pulls on the handle (sensor) to open and many times there is a long delay after you push start before it starts, not to mention the huge confusion about if the ignition is on or off or in run or in accessory, and if the gear is not in reverse the battery dies because it stays on.
The base C6 body is just blah. C5 is a sexy, curvy beast.
I agree. The C6 needs the wide body that's on the Z and GS to look really good. It almost looks like a whole different car that way. I'm looking into C6's for the future but if I don't go with a Z I'm going to have to put the body kit on anyway.
Although all the modernization is nice to have as options; Navi, steering wheel controls, W2M exhaust, 50+hp, etc.

the C5 styling and all around design is much more appealing even after 13years they still turn heads and get the thumbs up when you drive buy . I get it all the time
Well i guess i go against the grain with my opinion. The first time i saw a C5 i thought, wow Chevy will never top this one. The first time i saw a C6 i thought, looks like they did. I still love my C5, but i love the C6 also.
The only way I would move to a C6 is a C6 Z. I love the looks and I love the power. However, with the difference in cost, I could sure do a lot of upgrades in performance that would easily surpass the Z for a lot less $$$$.
But dag gone it, I sure do like the Z! And then I remember that the roof doesn't come off. Now if there was a Z targa; HMMMMM!

I'm sticking with the C5 (for now).
Its called a Grand Sport, you get the Z06 body, and chassis, but with a 70 hp less motor for near regular coupe pricing!
Still though, for all of the clutch, slave cylinder and master cylinder failures I've seen, I don't plan on moving up to a C6.
Oh not to mention the RIDICULOUS you must purchase the window regulator and motor/door module as an assemble for when your regulator cable rusts and charge $800 for it! That's a good way to make people not wash their cars ever
From: Wylie TX --> Less is More, except under the hood !
The C7 will only be a 5.5 liter Direct injection. It should put out some good HP numbers though. Look at what they have been testing on the C6R's at ALMS for the last 1.5+ years...........
Last of the big cubes will soon be gone once the C7 comes out. If you want a 427 you better get a C6Z now.

I am sorry you cant afford a C6 so you have to bash them. I guess your more of a c5 guy instead of a corvette guy. That sucks cause a C6 is an all around better car. Some people might prefer the looks of the c5 and thats fine, some think the interior is too small on the C6. I cant hate on that. But to say the C6 is a pos? C5= steering wheel lock, stock battery leaking on the ecm, abs module go out, headlight motor etc..

We have a '02 & '09. Wife loves her '02 and the '09. I love the '02 but the '09 is my favorite. We get stares in both which suits us just fine.
I have been noticing the past few years that when l am parked near or next to a C6 that my C5 gets more looks. Not to mention that all of the kids know that a C5 is a Corvette but question the C6 at first!
When l told my wife that l wanted to trade my coupe 02 for a C6 she balked because she just doesn't like the way it looks.
Even after explaining to her that the C6 is a better built vette both inside and outside (not looks) she still doesn't care. And to mention the hp difference would be wasting my time.
But she did say when the vette that was featured in the last Transformer's movie comes out l can step out and buy one. But to think about it according to GM that model will not be out until 2014 at best.
But again this is the only reason that l'm holding onto my C5 besides being in perfect condition with low miles.
What's your take
Alan
Im pretty sure your wife just doesnt want you buying another money pit
