Did you try flipping it to high beams prior to shutting them off?
I have the JWM HID's, and the resistor, and mine dont go down if I just shut them off (have to push forward to HB, then click them off, and they go down).
Yup tried that and it doesn't work. Regardless even if that did work, i dont want to have to press the high-beam to lower the headlights thats ridiculous.
When I retract the stalk to all the way down, it makes a humming sound that you can barely hear but you can feel if you put your hand on the assembly. Im stumped and frustrated.
I thought with the resistor you DIDNT have to press the HB?

When you say you have the brass gear, is that the replacement brass wheel gears from the stock OEM nylon gears? I'm trying to figure out what's causing your problem, however not sure why HID bulbs would effect the opening/closing mechanism of the lights.
I installed ACA HIDs, new housings, etc., however did not replace my nylon headlight gears and they open/close with no problems. Someday, I know I will need to swap out the gears for the brass gears so I'm curious to hear the resolution of your problem.
Sorry I can't help as I'm confused over what's causing the problem as well.
Yup i have put in the replacment gears (brass). The rubber bumper cant be the problem because i can crank it closed and open manually, and open it from the stalk, it just wont close when i turn the lights off...
and when i close it with the stalk i can hear a slight humming and i can feel it from the assembly..could it be the body module? the one on the passenger assembly?
The headlight control module (under the passenger headlight) may be failing. The weatherseal on the module is notorious for being weak. moisture that gets in the ohusing causes it do to some strange things. You can disassemble it and spray some CRC electrical cleaner on it to try and get it working, but odds are you will need a new module.
but could that be the reason why my light wont go down??
yes. the control module is what tell the lights to move. Normally 55w Kits don't require a resistor to function. I've even installed 35w kits with no lowering problems. This leads me to believe that your headlight module is the problem.
you may also want to check that your gears are functioning properly by removing the headlight shroud, cover and disconnecting the lifting arm from the motor. Attempt to acuate the headlights and see if the motor in question still does not operate. I doubt this is the problem since it raises normally, but it doesn't hurt to check.
This may not be possible, as I haven't installed HIDs yet, but if you can disconnect the HIDS and plug in the original bulb socket and bulb and just let them sit somewhere close that won't be in the way and try it...in other words revert back to the old setup (kinda) to eliminate the HID opening/closing issues. If that works you know you have an issue to do with the HIDs otherwise it is likely in the control module.

i put the resistor on from jwm and i still have to put the high beams on to get them to go down most of the time. i'm having trouble getting them to come up after a gear replacement. i replace the module and that didn't fix the problem. so the trouble shooting continues...
