Default problem?

threw the belt off. it ran pretty hot(pegged)
1. why did the belt(year old) come off
2. what damage can i expect from the overheating.
any thought on this is appreciated.

1. why did the belt(year old) come off..You might want to check your bottom pully and see if it wabbles.

2. what damage can i expect from the overheating. Blown Head Gasket, Cracked head or worst.

any thought on this is appreciated.

There you have it
Hope you have no damage. I am surprized you didn't get alerted before it maxed out on the temp, Like lo volts or something.

When mine started throwing the belt I put on a new tensioner and that fixed the problem.

Here is a write-up I did that will help you "IF" the balancer has walked forward: Pics to help you see if this is the problem:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-f...cs-inside.html

Well I caught it in time. I thought my A&A Procharger Bracket was delfecting and making my belt come off and shred -

Well upon closer inspection the outer ring was walking forward and making my belt shred and come off - this time the AC belt was walking off the back too - WOW! It was a close one

Well anyway as you know I had to remove the whole rack and Procharger set-up, wheels and tires, sway bar etc. in order to replace the "BALANCER" Bummer!

My buddy Scott came over and we did it in one day, put everything back together and it was back on the road in the late afternoon - We had to go 60 miles to pick-up a BALANCER and New Bolt from the dealership I had a new seal! AND YES! We did re-pin the crank

I was able to get a brand new BALANCER form GM for $113.00 and the Balancer Bolt for $6.60 - not too bad but just getting parts took an extra 2 hours

Check your balancers out when you can for: Missing Rubber and any walking forward. MINE wasn't even wobbling or vibrating but it was coming off

Anyway onto the pics of the old and new Of course the rack and sway etc on the ground:

Missing Pieces of the RUBBER Ring:

Here you can see just how far it was coming forward and a comparison against the new one:

BRAND NEW - what it looks like and the part number:

Installed:

Could of cost me a lot more if it had come flying off. So check those balancers

Thanks,Matt
