Dumb question .... I have a 5qts of Mobile 1 and 2 Qts of Royal Purple.... I assume there no harm in mixing them then I change my oil this weekend. was only going to use 1.5 of the royal purple.
Some engine manufacturers warn against mixing brands of oil. Some times they are not compatible and will damage seals. Why risk it for a $6./quart of oil. Just pick up two more quarts of M1 at Wally World.

Not a dumb question, but you do need to state the weights of the oil. I assume the same weight???
I think all you're gonna get is a lot of do's and don't do's...
I can only offer my opinion as I dont have references to list, but as long as the viscosity is the same you can mix oils, and you can also mix synthetic and conventional oils of similar weights as well.
With that said, I personally would feel more fuzzy inside just buying the extra quarts needed so that its all the same and maybe use the Royal Purple as "top off" oil or whatever.
Anyways, guys, please don't quote me as I clearly stated that this was my opinion.

as long as the different oils used are the same viscosity. And I will add one more caveat: as long as the oils used all meet GM spec.
Guys the noise went away after a little driving. All is well in corvette land for me again.
It's normal, as I mentioned. Whether it is called lifter noise or piston slap, the issue is the noise when an LS1 is cold and until it warms up sounds terrible. I need to check when it settles down to punch up the oil temp to see what that value is. But I know it occurs around 160°F coolant temp.
thanks I was using Royal Purple but got a deal on M1 so I picked it up and had some RP around the house and was just going to top off the last Qt. with it.
