Default C5 Price

This is my first post on the C5 forum. I usually hang out over on C1/C2. I am looking at a 2004 Coupe, not a lot of options. It does have gray Z06 wheels, both tops, premium sound, and the usual. The good part: it has less than 16,000 miles on it. It is in overall good to very good condition. What is a fair price for this car?

As usual it all "depends." Does it have the Heads Up Display? Dual climate control? Duel electric seats? It's a buyer's market, so that's in your favor!

Should have probably just done this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true

The car is only about 15 miles from me, so I won't be buying it unless I see it/drive it first.

It's good that it has new tires, but why did it need tires at <16k miles?
Reserve not met at 18.1 is not good as your approaching it's worth.
Do you like the color, automatic, gears, options, etc?
Good luck.

Why did it need new tires @ 16k miles? They either burned rubber and hit corners hard alot...OR, maybe they came with the z06 rims? I'd ask. My Dad was just looking at an '04 that had 11k miles and the dealer just put on 3 new tires, so it was either run hard or someone jumped a curb.

Asked the guy the reserve price: $24,000. That seems high, I'm no longer interested. I was hoping to get it around 20k.

Tires could be for other reasons. I had to replace the fronts at 7000 miles because they were cupped on the inside. Probably wasn't right from the factory.

He isn't going to get his reserve so I am sure he'll talk to you about 20k after the auction is over.

I think 20k is just about right unless you discover problems when you inspect/drive the car.

The OEM Goodyears sometimes do not last all that long - the rear ones on my '00 lasted only 15K miles and I didn't drive it all that hard. The rear ones on my '03 are about ready for replacement at 13K.

$24K for that car is a bit optimistic IMO. If you could have got it for $20-21K, it would have been a decent deal.

Most likely because he switched to Z06 size rims which are 1 inch wider than the thin spoke C5 rims front and rear. The run flats will not fit the Z06 rims properly due to their harder composition and inability to stretch and therefore will not keep air when mounted.

However, low mileage pristine C5's are getting harder to find, especially if the colors and options are exactly what you are looking for. Sounds like a nice car.

Or even still to get rid of dry nasty 6-7 year old tires.

I have just begun looking at C5 for sale ads, and I am definitely a tire kicker... actually I am not even close enough to kick the tires, just a "looker". Hard to get serious right now with 3 cars and a 2 car garage and no job, but I have plugged several cars into the Edmunds used car appraiser and even using condition as "outstanding" and checking all the option boxes most of these cars are priced above what Edmunds considers dealer retail price. Is Edmunds that useless or are sellers unrealistic? Not trying to antagonize sellers in a tough market, just trying to figure out what is reasonable so I can decide what and if I can afford.

Couple things - on tires - my '04 Vert has 26k and still has a bit of life in the OEM runflats! Also - on topic of what a car is worth, do you guys think I'm out of line asking $27,750 for a showroom '04 Vert, auto with all options except 6-disc changer? 100% stock, no mods Torch red / Blk top....

Good luck and if ya want to spend a lil more for an ultra nice car, PM me lol!!!

I'm not under the gun to sell but I know it gets tough for people to get banks to loan for cars over 7 yrs old so before the car is impossible for anyone to buy that doesn't have the cash laying around, I am thinking about moving it.... We'll see...
