225 degrees is nothing to be worried about. It's normal for a C5 LSx motor unless your original fan settings have been modified for some reason. It's probably pretty standard for many modern emissions controlled fuel injected cars.

This was easily found in C5 Tech, using search or search this forum (in the red banner) with keywords "original fan temperature settings"...

QUOTE:

"The low speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 108°C (226°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 104°C (219°F). The high speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 113°C (235°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 108°C (226°F). When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F), the low speed cooling fan will be turned on at vehicle speeds less than 56 kPh (35 mph)."

Thanks for finding this in the search. It is at times difficult to phrase the search in such a manner to find exactly what your looking for. I did remember "if the A/C" is running, one of the fans will turn on, below a speed, but forgot the speed. I used this while stuck on an interstate backup to cool the car temps. Do you know about safe/high trans fluid temps?

if you become concerned at that temp (225) flip in your a/c and the fans will (or at least should) come right on. if not, they will come on very shortly.

Sorry I don't. I have the 6 speed w/o a gauge for it. I have (only) read that temperatures over 200 degrees will deteriorate the effectiveness of the ATF and potentially damage seals on an automatic transmission. 165 to 175 degrees seems to be the preferred range. I don't know if that's the same for a manual transmission car.
