Shift ***** are pretty subjective. You'll get a lot of opinion. I like the HURST **** on mine. I started with a black one and settled on a white one...
I like mine but I am considering getting the smaller one

That's the one I have... it's the only white thing inside, that's why I dont like it
Geez, does any company make a modern 9/16-18 threaded shift ****? I am not a fan of hard and slippery cue ball shaped shift *****, and I don't find the C5R "stick" type ***** comfortable. Does anyone make a nice leather anatomic-shaped ****? Something like what is found in imports and late model GTOs or Mustangs? All the nice shift ***** I find have metric threads. Maybe an adapter available to run a metric **** on a 9/16-18 shaft? The modded C6Z shift ***** seem to be the only ones people use.
I want something grippy, comfy, and attractive, like these:
Not sure how I feel about those stick like ones. Aren't they hard to manipulate?
Honestly, not at all. This is the first shift **** that I have ever had that was shaped this way. I have always used the traditional round shaped shift **** but heard many good things about the Delrin and I found an amazing deal on it so I decided to give it a try. What I can say is, it does not heat up and retain heat the same way a lot of other shift ***** seem to do. Definitely, at least in my opinion, 1st to 2nd, and 3rd to 4th are very nice now because of the grip and ability to get a strong hold on it and pull it into gear. There are no changes for 2nd to 3rd, or 4th to 5th, still the same technique of pushing with the palm of your hand towards the center console for the 2-3, and the same yet slightly diagonal for the 4-5th. Getting into 6th gear is very easy as well. Overall, I would recommend it. If you are on the stock shifter go for it, it will lessen the throw since the shift **** naturally lowers the hight of the shifter itself which is very nice. Even if you are on a aftermarket shifter as I am (MGW Shifter), since they make it a bit more stiff yet more precise, a shift **** in this shape is actually very functional. I believe it's all personal preference though. You should try each out and whatever feels more comfortable in your hand just go with it. I've always been perfectly fine with round shift *****; this was simply just an experiment and it worked out well, and I'm very happy with it. Good luck! The good news is, shift ***** don't cost an arm and a leg like most Corvette parts lol.

I agree. This is the best looking of the lot. Looks like it would have comfort and looks very solid-well built. Would love to have something very close to this for my Z, set-up for the C6 shifter.
Looks like a Gen4 Trans Am, so this is the GM 6 spd shifter, that should have similar threads as the C5 shifter I would imagine.

Yup, I want something just like that...
the C6 ones don't seem to fit too well as far as looks dept goes (you can tell it came from a newer car lol) but it's still a better choice than most i think...

The **** is from a GTO, so the guy had to do some rethreading. However, I did find an adapter online last night that threads on to the stock C5 9/16-18 shift rod, and has 16mm-1.5 outer threads. That means any **** for a 4th gen F-body will work. SLP and Hurst both offer a nice leather **** shaped like the ones above that would work well.

Very interesting. Can you tell me where you found the adapter?
B.
I made a shift **** out of a billiard 3-ball. The red color is fairly close to my mod-red interior. I drilled a 1/2" diameter hole in it, then tapped it with a 9/16-18 tap. Works great.

GTO shifter can be had new still for $170 or so online. Pretty expensive for a shift ****, but you get the ****, the attached shaft, and matching leather boot.
My research from LS1tech: This GTO shift **** doesn't allow a screw on apparently. No threads and its held on to the original GTO shifter shaft by a quick release type lock. This one pictured above was JB Welded onto a shorter shifter shaft, which was then bolted to an MGW shifter body. It belongs to user therobman.
Apparently there has been some problems with rattles on the GTO T56 shifter. Not 100% sure if this is related to the shift **** or the shifter body section.
Looks like some unneeded pain and possible garage engineering would be required to make this happen.
There's something like that on fleabay. I actually contacted a guy who bought one from the vendor and he said the quality was nice. I didn't go this route because I didn't want a "universal fit" shift ****.
You can check it out HERE. No red stitching though.

Thanks. That one doesn't do alot for me. I guess I would stick with the C6 **** probably if I make a change.

Actually, it's just the opposite with hard shift *****. Think about this scenario: walking on a ceramic tile (smooth as glass) floor with your bare feet.
As long as.....
a) The floor or your feet are not wet
b) You're not wearing socks
The adhesion between your skin and the hard surface will be very high. This is also true of hard shift *****. The grip with bare hands is extremely good unless you are one of those people who sweat profusely. If that's the case, your leather-wrapped shift **** will stink and will be hard to thoroughly clean.
Also, the natural rotational position of your hand is not palm-down. It is somewhere in between that position and palm-sideways, so a stick type shift **** is no more unnatural than any other shift ****. It probably doesn't make sense if you have a shifter that positions the top of the **** at your waistline (Honda Civic), but Corvette shifters are positioned so that most styles of shift ***** work well once you get used to them.

I appreciate your input. However, I have owned/driven/tracked many, many different vehicles since 1985 or so, and I have a pretty good idea of what I personally find comfortable. Sweat is not a problem. I just find hard-surfaced ***** to not be comfy.

Actually, for serious track use and perfect shifter engagement in all gears, the hand's grip on the **** will change. Sometimes the palm is on top of the ****, and sometimes the palm is on the side or almost behind the shifter. I am sure this is obvious to most racers here. Because of the change in grip depending on the gear change, I have found a shift **** shaped such as the ones I posted is my personal preference. They represent a shape that is a combination of a "stick" and a "ball" ****, so it works well for changes in any gear and with any grip.
Of course you are entitled to your own opinion, which is geared toward racing conditions. Personally, I would rather use double-clutch paddle shifters if winning were the ultimate goal in a race. A floor-mounted shifter, no matter what type of **** on it, would never be as quick.
Now for street use, it's a whole "nuther" ball game!

Hurst makes a leather shift **** with an H embossed in it. Have one on my Firebird and a spare for future.
Just Google Hurst Leather Shift **** and you'll find 'em.
The Vette has the stock tan leather wrapped **** with shift pattern.
Installed B&M Sport Shifter that drops the **** down and it looks great.
I had installed a Kragen's generic **** after drilling the heck out of it to drop it and it was OK.... only $16 too ... leather, nice. However, the new Sport Short Shifter make the stock **** look right and classy.
