I've been to Pearl Harbor more than once and it is a very sobering experience to see the U.S.S. Arizona from the Memorial and to see all the names of those who lost their lives that sad day. Lets all take a moment to remember all of those brave souls who serve our country past and present.
I too have been there and I'll agree.
My Dad was stationed in the Philippine Islands during the war and he never talked about it. He died in 1983 at the age of 66 and I wished I learned more of his service. I have many pictures of his time there plus his letters to Mom.
God Bless those who have served and are serving now.
My dad,,now over 88 years old,,spent his war years in the European theater. He STILL has a hard time talking about it!! My mom passed last February,,told me one of the few times she ever saw a tear in his eye,was when we were as Scott A.F.B. as I boarded a plane to California heading for Vietnam!! Guess it brought back memories for him!! I thought ONE year was bad enough,,,many of the WW2 folks spent 4 years in battle,,I can't even imagine that type of hell!!! Thank you to ALL veterans and service people!!!:ch eers:
I came back through Scott AFB in 1968 after I was wounded in Vietnam. When we left there, the hospital plane we were on had to abort take-off and I thought for sure I was going to die. They brought us back, loaded our stretchers onto another plane, and we flew into Glenview NAS. From there I went to Great Lakes for 5 months. I can't begin to tell you how great it was to be back home.
I find it interesting and frightening how quickly we today the citizens of the United States of America are willing to give up our freedom's and liberties, when so many men and women before us laid down their lives to protect it. And how quickly the politicians desire to take them away and destroy this great country.
Yes it is a sad day, but in more ways than one. All those before us and those currently in theater are giving up their lives in vane. We should hold are heads down in shame as a people.
For those of you who have never had the opportunity to visit the Battleship Arizona memorial in Pearl Harbor you must make it a point to do so if you are ever in Hawaii. The memorial is one of the most moving rememberences I have ever experienced. I have been to Arlington National Cemetary, the "Wall", Gettysburg and many other historical places, but none moved me as much as the Arizona Memorial.
It's hard to believe that it was 69-years ago. My Dad, who passed away in September, was stationed in Hawaii and left there just a few weeks before Pearl Harbor. They are truly the greatest generation!
I AGREE! It is the end of an era. I believe that the Greatest Generation of all time is slowly passing away.
My Dad also just passed away in August at 88 yrs old. He fought ther Japs and the Germans. I heard tons of war stories from him over the years.

I'm watching a TV show called North Carolina's WWII Experience on PBS right now. As the title states, its a documentary about WWII from the eyes of North Carolinians who were alive during WWII, many of whom went on to serve in the various branches of the armed forces. It is absolutely fascinating.

It's funny, but I remember asking my Dad last year where he was when he heard that Pearl Harbor had been attacked. He remembered the exact location. He's only been gone a few months, but I miss him so much. He will always be my hero.
I was there today at the Pearl Harbor memorial ceremony. It was something else, the Air force had 4 F-15's do a fly over at 7:55 am (approximately when the havoc started on this day in 1941) they were in the missing man formation. I have been out here in Hawaii for so long, that sometimes it takes days like this to bring me back to the reason I am in the military.
