My Dad served in the Army Air Force, as it was called then, as a radio operator. He never really talked very much about his experiences except a couple of times when I pressed him for stories he told me a few things that happened to him and his buddies. He passed away at the youthful age of 57 when I was still a very young man. There is still so much that I will never know. One of Dad's brothers was on the USS Missouri and he took photos at the surrender and now I have them; they are among my most valued possessions. I had another uncle KIA in Germany near the end of the war. I have a number of family members I remember quite often, not just on Dec. 7 and Memorial Day. I think about them all the time and wonder if I could have done what they did.
I was there today at the Pearl Harbor memorial ceremony. It was something else, the Air force had 4 F-15's do a fly over at 7:55 am (approximately when the havoc started on this day in 1941) they were in the missing man formation. I have been out here in Hawaii for so long, that sometimes it takes days like this to bring me back to the reason I am in the military.
Every time I have seen the "missing man formation" I get chills.....and a tear or two.
American Service men & women of past & present,I revere you. The martyrs of Pearl Harbor, we still mourn you,God give you rest & peace.
To the American politicians who after our courageous fighting men won WW2 & other wars,I condemn you & abhore your greed. You gave Germany ,Japan & other enemies of ours a grossly unfair advantage in trade,& built them new factories at the expense of the sons & daughters of these gallant warriors. To you, many of us curse your treason,Republican & Democrat alike, your greed still betrays these heroic souls!
Our freedom is here because the greatest generation gave all and I am still so lucky to be a free man because of them and the Soliders who have followed in there footsteps

My respect and admiration to those veterans of WWII. My father enlisted in the US Army due to the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was a Seargent in the US Army and fought throughout Europe and in Japan. He received three Purple Hearts during his service. He and his brother were among the fortunate to return home whole. My father did not speak very often of his experiences but we were often visited at least once a year by a man who's life my father saved and he told me some great things. To my Dad who passed several years ago, I love you and miss you very much.
