Just curious. How long has your TPS sensors lasted? My 99 car just went over the 100 K mark, and the sensors still work. Not sure if they are original or not, which is why I am putting this out there. Any chance that they are the original ones?
I got new ones after 9 1/2 yrs because I needed tires. The old ones were still working though. I figured they had to be near death!? I will never know.

13 years here....my 97 is a first day car built October 1996. I put my original set of wheels/tires on last summer while working on a tire balance problem...I was shocked the sensors still worked, but they were in sleep mode most of the past several years.

As RWS1 says you have the older sensors and some changes were made in 2000. In theory the newer sensors are more efficient.
The sensors are dormant until the car gets to about 15mph. That means the life of the batteries is mileage as well as age dependent. More miles = more battery use.
Either way 12 years and 100k miles is good by any standards. Mine are youngsters in comparison with only 7 years & 43k miles.
I have seen them from 97's with 20k miles go dead to 97's with 130k finally going dead, its hit or miss on exactly how long they will last. When I rebuild them most of the time the failure is due to the origional battery leaking which in return shorts out the sensor (not rebuildable after this point) even though the battery still has 3+ volts on it. Rule of thumb is if your changing tires and are on borrowed time to have them replaced or rebuilt.
