I've owned two C5's and driven the C6 coupe. I think the C6 is a better car as it is faster and handles better off the showroom flooor but the looks of the C5 was the decision maker for me.

Don't think I didn't consider keeping the C5 and getting the C6... My wife said, "What... and no way! I had to agree as we have three cars, three pickups, two trailers and a firetruck. Can't say I could disagree with her. The C5 is starting to become dated but it is one hell of a fun ride!

ex is from Mt Washington. Her parents have lived there for 45 years or so and she moved back to Mt Washington from Owensboro a couple years ago.

I left oboro and moved to Bowling Green after we split and I retired from there, from Army Recruiting, and came back to Missouri.

Now you have my life story

I really love that part of the country and miss it actually.

Your thread is interesting because the guys in C4 section are always discussing the C4 VS the C5 and I came over tonight to see what you guys talk about. You'll get some wise guy answers but your questions are valid so hang in there.

I'm currently looking for a C5 or another C4 to buy myself. Just remember they're all vettes and true vette lovers will tell you the differences. Wise guys, well, they'll just be wise guys. Ignore them!!

Enjoy your vette, they're truly great fun and very very addictive.

Here's another slant on the C5 v. C6 question.

I was considering this question 2 years ago and came up with these conclusions.

The C6 was just a tad smaller inside.

I liked the disappearing headlights and overall looks of a C5.

I can pull DIC trouble codes in the C5 (had to buy a reader for a C6)

Aftermarket choices are extremely developed for a C5, less for a C6.

Lower insurance for a C5.

Had a manual trans in a past Vette, but liked an automatic more.

Wanted a 427 but could only buy a stick shift in a C6 Z06.

Wanted double din Nav, C5 had solved this problem.

Solution - have best of both, very happy with outcome, see my solution in my sig. below.

The facts... are that the C6 is based on a platform from 2005 and the C5 based on a platform from 1997. The C6 will have more updated options like steering wheel controls, navi, etc. The C5 has more room interior. I think they are both around the same weight, within 100 lbs depending on model, excluding Z06. The C6 obviously has more power.

I think you will find more people actually claiming they like their C5 more then the C6 people saying they like their C6 more. But that's probably because C5 people have to defend having an older car. There are a lot of people that like the looks better in either generation though. I love my C5 but I wold take a C6 Z06 or C6 widebody (Z06 body or GS) over my C5. I'm looking to upgrade to a 2008 in a year or so regardless though. The C5 is a great car though and performance and drive-ability it ranks with or better then a lot of newer cars. I would not take any of the 2010 basic package American sports cars (Mustang, Camaro, Charger, etc... excluding Shelby, etc) over my 1999 C5.
