I have the wide ovals on my WRX. Pretty decent in the wet and dry, OK noise levels.
I wore them out in about 30k miles.

I just put 1,000 miles on my new Hankooks driving from the southern tip of Texas to the northern end and back. I have to say I was very impressed with the set. They have a more forgiving ride than the F1's and much much quieter. Easy on the pocketbook too.

30K miles isn't very impressive...so I guess you don't drive like a princess?

Bridgestone Potenza RE760 are awesome and cheap. Read reviews on tirerack, great dry, wet traction. Good decent wear life and very low noise. Got them a few months back for a little over $900 at tire kingdom installed. They originally asked for $1200 but brought it down after I told them another shop had given me a lower price. They also offered a warranty for $8 per tire which is good because these large, soft tires are nail magnets and if you get side wall damage 8 bucks beats having to buy a new tire.

Search Treadepot.com, forum vendor, search by price or tread warranty....I like the 50,000 mile Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP (runflat). I bet the cost per mile is very inexpensive.

I replaced my RFs with General Exclaim UHPs two years ago and have been happy with them. They cost $548 balanced and installed at the General Tire dealer on south State Street in Salt Lake City, Utah.

I believe it is a 45K warranty on the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP. The first generation, non-Plus, were wearing out at 20K. Well I got about that out of the first set, and about 20K on the rear's of the A/S Plus ZP. Although Michelin did provide a credit for that under the warranty, it tells me they still have not figured out what is causing the premature wearing.

I put sumitomo II's on my car. $500 and the dealer did the install for free. I have had them for 3 summers and just under 20k miles and they show no sign of needing to be replaced. I drive them summer only but in the early spring and late fall they get used in 35 degree weather. I am careful when it is cold but they do just fine. I think they are good in the rain and ride comfortably. I don't drive the car very hard (I'd like to drive it harder but don't get the opportunity). I daily drive the car in the summer.
for the price, I will buy these again

I just threw on some Bridgestone Potenza RE760's on the front.
My Firstone Wide Ovals in the front (265/40's) were toast (I am running almost new FSWO's in the back). The FSWO's are discontinued now (which sucks as the replacement FSWO Indy 500's don't appear to be in the C5Z sizes).
I put on the 275/40's in the front to see what they look like (same weight as the FSWO 265/40's however I am betting the RE760's have a little more mass moment of inertia).
They are definitely a little wider (tread width from 9.1" to 10"), although I've heard the FSWO tread width is a little narrow for its size, the Bridgestone's are a little wider tread width comparable tire size.

If I would have went 265/40's in the RE760's front tire weight (per tire) would have dropped from 29 lbs to 26 lbs.
I wanted to try a little more foot print in the front now that I've cranked up the neg camber.

Another General Exclaim UHP vote, put them on the wife's vette she is very satisfied. Road noise is good, wet and dty traction is very good. Less than $600 mounted, balance, and tire disposal cost at Discount Tires.

My step son just got these Nitto 555 tires for his C5 wheels (on his C4) and he likes them, he said really good traction for about $600-700 bones

I really like my Michellin Pilot Sport AS Plus tires but they cost twice as much, I will probably never buy anything else but Michellins

Firestone Wide Ovals are cheap priced but I have no idea how they ride or function

OK, Here is my input, If you are looking for a great set of tires and want to spend only about 440 bucks I would go with the Sumitomo HTR Z II tires, I ran them for 4 years with never a flat, Quiet tire and good tread design, Not the best in the rain, But they will perform well.
Tirerack.com has them for a great price.

I had those. They were okay but I felt they wore out rather quickly.

Btw, who the hell can hear tire noise? Don't you guys have exhaust? I can't even hear a fart in my car....
