You don't have it on an 01 as you have the newer fobs and RFA.
It was fitted on the early C5s. There was a switch on the fob which, if it was selected on, meant that whenever the fob was in range of the RFA it would unlock the car without needing to press the unlock or lock buttons.
A lot of people had problems with it and it was dropped when the system changed frequency. I'm sure members who have it will comment.

I had it on my '99. DeeGee is right on what it was designed to do - it just got to be a real PITA as mine would occasionally lock/unlock the car when it was in the garage simply because the remote was within range.
I have it on my 98. It was a real pain. Walk around the car with the key FOB and the doors would lock and unlock a couple times - washing or working around the car with the key FOB in your pocket would drive you crazy! Fortunately, there is an ON / OFF switch on the key FOB to turn the lunacy off. Only good thing I know about it is if you locked your keys in the car - just give the car a bounce or two and the doors would unlock. Of course it needs to be turned ON, which mine hasn't been for years.
I have it on my '99. Mine works without any problems 99% of the time. It has locked the car with the keys inside once, but luckily I had the spare set with me!
It must have some sort of motion sensor inside of it, because when I get in the car and pick up the keys (which I usually leave sitting on the center console) the door lock mechanism sounds like it cycles once. Not sure what it's doing.
99 Vette.I usually just leave mine off. But, it s useful if you always have your hands full when approaching the car and not having to dig for the keys. You can set it up for the lights to come on as well, not a bad feature at night. But, if just hanging around the car, it needs to be turned off.
My 99 does all the goofy things listed here, but I've come to like it. I had it OFF for years and didn't know what the passive feature did. Discovered it by accident and left it ON ever since.
I am the new owner of a 2000 and am having problems programming a set of fobs from a 99 with passive. The car came with no fobs. I put new batteries in both and only one programmed one time. Since I have retried to program both and am unable. One does still remain programmed. Thanks in advance!

You can program the 99 and older passive fobs to a 2000, but there will be no passive feature. 2000's did not have that feature, but used the same frequency for the buttons, so the fobs will work. Many of the older fobs had the problem you mention. Read this:
