I'm not looking to copy a Ferrari, what I'm looking for is something different and unique. I have never seen this type of setup on a vette and as far as I know it does not exist. I think it would look good...besides I don't see how it would be mistaken for a Ferrari.
If you don't understand how a diffuser would make it look like a cheap attempt at imitating a Ferrari, I certainly wouldn't be able to explain it to you. I'm all for "making it your own", but of all the body modifications that're made for C5s, the only things I really hate are wings, and rear diffusers. IMHO, Ferrari's are immune from accusations of ricerness.
Subscribed! This is an awesome thread. Even if someone doesn't like the 2 piece design or defuser idea, a bit of knowledge can be learned about how to make a mold and work with fiberglass! Thanks for taking the time to share this.
Today i remowed the mold.
A tip if u are doing a mold is to make one extra layer glassfiber around the outer edges, it makes it much more easier to take it away then..
Too bad you're not changing anything in the design. All that trouble for the stock look...
Single rear taillights would have looked really good, a la Stratos concept, GT40, 599, C16 or Alfa C8.
Or an integrated rear wing...
But great job on the work!!!! Hats off
How much would you say you've spent so far on materials and tools for this so far, and how much do you figure (excluding final paint) this will end up costing? I've been watching a few vendors for sales and new custom rears, but if the price is right I don't any reason not to give this a shot.
Also, are you doing anything besides waxing the stock bumper to protect it from layering on the glass, and how's it holding up to that anyways (any damage so far)?
