Been reading quite a bit about the valave spring failure issue with the 02 and 03 models. Mine is an 03 with a production date of 10/2002. I have been searching all over to see when GM started producing the 2004 as I have read the late 03 models had the new springs.
I am assuming my car would be considered an early 03 build? I can only find the numbers that were produced for their respective year not the dates in which the next year was produced. Any help is appreciated.
The majority of the problems (which aren't many to begin with) are with late 2002 and early 2003 Z06s.
One of the main possible reasons we don't see as many problems as there could be is because a large majority of C5Zs are garaged and hardly driven hard if they're driven at all...
MANY MANY Z06s are under 35000 miles... For an 6-9 year old car, that's not a lot of miles at all.

To answer your question, yes, yours is an early 03 which if stock should have the suspect springs. Late 03 (like mine, build date May 03) have the 04 springs which were upgraded. If your 03 has the 04 fuel system on it then you are likely to have the 04 springs too.
21JUN02: 03 production begins with 87 02s built and 47 03s built that day.
Not sure about the FFS crossover and VIN range. Its easy on this as it shows up on your RPO codes in the glove box, and in the RPO listings on a vehicle history report on your VIN.
Steel shift forks switch was made in FEB03.
03FEB03 start VIN is 120919
28FEB03 finish VIN is 123935
If your VIN is before 120919, you for sure have aluminum shift forks.
If your VIN is after 123935, you for sure have steel shift forks.
Not sure where the actual crossover VIN has been made.
Is there a quick way to tell if you have the 04 fuel system?
My car just turned 30k after a Sunday cruise with my brother in law. Was a wonderful day for a cruise but DPS officers were out in force. Luckily we were cruising pretty mild when we saw them.
So, I guess that falls in line with the low mileage may not show the true issue on these cars.
I live relatively close to Henderson performance and might just ask Corey's opinion on a valve spring swap for LS2 springs. Especially since I am about to do a CAI and Dyno/Street tune. Biggest concern is I do not want a weak link in the chain.
Your z is an early 03 and your fuel system is not the 04. They way you check is that your fuel filter is outside your tank which is inline fuel line along frame the left side. My z has same build date as yours. One nice thing is that u can change your filter without removing the tank..I believe the 04 u cant change filter. Yeah I have concern too about valve springs, will change some day..... hope this helps[/QUOTE]
