locking a convertible is pretty pointless since its way easier to replace the stuff someone would steal inside the car or maybe replace the whole car if they steal it than just buying a new top should someone cut it open.
There are people that will go through cars in parking lots checking for unlocked vehicles. once they find it (they WILL find one) they open the door, grab the stuff and leave. if your car is locked, they won't cut the roof to get in, they'll go to the next car.
Of course it's wise to lock a convertible, it sets the alarm, and keeps a casual passerby from going inside. I even lock mine with the top down, as I said, it sets the alarm.
I lock mine top up or down.....if nothing else it's an insurance thing and they always look more favorably upon you if you locked it.
Beyond that, always helps to keep the general riffraff out and for those who are really determined, a locked car, vert or not, isn't going to stop them. Would rather replace a soft top than a window. IMO
I lock mine no matter what... My dad said it best, "Try to keep em' Honest". It's true that if someone wants in bad enough, they'll do whatever... just don't make it any easier for them.
Locking a car or anything for that matter keeps an honest man honest, if they want it then they will find a way to get it. There is no reason to give a person the opportunity as most people see something easy and dont think twice about it where as locking it up will force someone to think about it.
Wow! It's amazing how many times I hear, I leave my car unlocked, that way they won't break anything.............That's for converts and non-converts..............I've even heard it said for people's residences.
Why give potential thieves the upper hand. There are thieves who go around checking car and house doors to see if they are locked..........That way they think they are avoiding the breaking and entering laws.............Think you took everything of value out the car? wrong what about the thief who wants your battery, needs a new engine part, etc.....................back in the 70's and 80's, it was called "shopping at MIDNIGHT MOTORS".
LOCK IT UP, ALL THE TIME....................................
lock your damn car people. Everyday all day long we get calls from people, "someone broke in my car and took my GPS, iPOD, laptop, purse, wallet, gun...."
Was it locked?
Uhh, no I never lock my car in my driveway or if I leave it unlocked they won't break the window...or...or..or...
Wanna go out there and ask why it's our problem that YOU left your stuff unsecure.
I had a tundra that was parked in front of my house i never locked it. One day the console was open, you guessed it.
The police said that kids go around and if they find a door unlocked they take the opp. To see what they can get. My 98 vert is always locked my 2 cents
Not only lock it but keep all your valuables (GPS, radar, sunglasses, CDs, etc) out of sight. Might be why GM supplied us with locking console, glove box and trunk? If they don't see anything worth breaking in for, they probably won't bother, especially if it's locked. That is unless they're out to steal your car, in which case nothing will stop them.
