Since I'm a noob to the C5 world, I'm wondering what the general consensus is on a better shifter for the C5's. I DO NOT want one that is super-low (close to the console) but I would like one with a better grip. The stock **** doesn't really feel right to me. That said, this is what I built for my previous car: http://www.marcmedina.com/MR2shortshifter.html
The throw was VERY short - you could almost get all 6 gears with just wrist action alone. Something like that would be great, but a little more throw would be fine too. I haven't looked at the shift linkage on the C5 so I don't know if I could do something similar or if I just have to go with an aftermarket assembly.
I've posted a poll with the shifters that I could think of, but if you choose "other" please let me know which one it is.
I bought my Vette the same week as you so I have no Shifter recommendations but wanted to say MR2's are cool. My son has a 91 and you could shift pretty much with wrist movement.
MGW.... had a Hurst for 3 years, MGW is much better. Quieter, smoother and the shaft has an offset mount that allows you to move the shift **** by rotating it around the offset and then tightening it once you are happy with the placement. It helped move the shift **** away from my knee in 1st gear...
I agree on the Kirban. If I remember correctly that was the first mod done on my car. My son who at the time had 96 Mustang Cobra liked it so much, he bought one for his car & the results were the same.
I had someone who swore that the B&M shifter was GODs gift to shifters,, drive my 02 ZO6 with the KIRBAN shifter. He said (QUOTE) Holy S^&$, this is a NICE shifter,,,, who makes it???
MGW is amazing in my opinion. A little more pricey than the other choices but completely perfect. Very solid and precise, clean shifts. I have to say I would highly recommend MGW.
