Default Dyno Tune

What does it cost for a dyno tune these days and, what HP boost can be expected for a stock 02 w/low miles?

I'm working on buying an 02 that I plan to autocross in super stock class. There are virtually no engine performance mods allowed - except for exhaust - no headers or cold air intake.

Thanks

Les

For a bolt on car the average seems to be around 400ish...

Every car is a little different, but I think 10-15rwhp is attainable given that your car will essentially be bone stock. Most professional tunes are going to be +/- $400.

Hi skylarkul -

My stock 02 did 356 rwhp stock on the Breathless mustang portable before tune, and 374rwhp after the tune.

If I remember, Ernie charged me $350, but that was a special at a cruise-in event at Bowling Green.

It was well worth the money, the tune woke the car up.

best regards -

It seems like the headers are only worth another 10-20rwhp max. I haven't seen many 400hp and a few 39x cars with headers... Maybe I'm off. This is assuming you're at 375 or so bone stock with tuning.

Thanks.

How well it runs and how consistently responsive is probably as important as much horsepower it puts out.

I would like to put headers on it - just for the way it sounds but, in an SCCA stock class, I can run aftermarket exhaust but not headers.

Hi skylarkul -

Can you legally bump the limiter up? That was part of my initial tune, which allows me to shift at redline and not hit the limiter.

If you could legally bump your limiter, you may get an advantage if you need to stretch a gear etc.

After I had LG install my pro's and check the tune (it did not need tweaked), the car did 389rwhp on the LG Dynojet.

The headers made a big difference from the seat, more than the numbers proofed out.

best regards -
