I still have the orig tires on my vette....story's like yours make me lean towards staying with the run flats.
I'd love to buy a set of Michelin pilot sports PS2/ ZP. A full set from tire rack is $589.00 front and back $1300.00 total with a road hazrard warranty. But what am I going to do with a set of the original goodyear tires, one has 14K miles and the other 3 have less than 2000 miles on them ? I spent more to replace one of the rear tires and for them the stealership nailed me $600.00 !
Much quieter that the original Goodyears!!! I too had an incident with the original runflats that were on the car. Picked up a nail somewhere,,and after the car sat for a few days,,got in and got the low pressure alarm,,pulled up the reading,,,zero in the right rear tire!! Drove to an air line aired it up and was able to do a fix that lasted till I got my new tires!! Run flats for me!!

This year or next, I'm just gonna bite the bullet and swap out the original GY run-flats with a set of Michelin pilot sports PS@/ RF and see if I can pedal the old tires off to a tire shop, maybe on consignment, I don't know. but I'd sure like to change the ride quality and noise.
Keep in mind that runflats weigh at least 6-7 lbs per tire more than non-runflats of the same size. Lowering the unsprung weight at each corner enhances shock response and the softer sidewalls of the non-runflats smooths out the ride enough so that side-hopping is reduced, considerably. In addition, many tire shops will not guarantee that the wheel will not be damaged when removing a runflat tire.
Finally, you will always be able to save quite a bit of money when buying non-runflats. A set of Hankook V12s will run you $560. Try finding good runflats for anywhere near that number. Now, I'm not blaming anyone who has to have runflats or a $200 Sears Platinum battery (for piece of mind) but wish to post the positive attributes of non-runflats; I've been running GSD3s for many years and would never go back to EMTs of any brand.
