Default p1416 AIR System Error Code

I am lucky enough to own a 2003 C5 mn6. I just returned from a 1500 mile round trip and it was exhilarating. I ran betweek 77 and 83 depending on road conditions and received 27.5 miles per gallon. I was impressed.

At any rate that was about 8 days ago. Yesterday I was driving home from work on a beautiful near spring day here in Bowling Green and my Check Engine light came on.

I ran the numbers and I have a P1416 which apparently refers to the AIR system. Anyone got any poop on what is happening to my horse ??

Your time and guidance are appreciated.

Not an uncommon problem. Do a search on the code in this forum or go to:

After I "cleaned" the AIR valves as in the above thread, the codes came back soon.

The only way to actually fix the issue is to replace them. They are cheap but the intake has to come off. The intake gaskets were the most expensive parts.

Once off, a visual inspection showed that the stuff is packed in there and you could spray dynamite on them, but nothing will actually remove the gunk.

So to make sure I am clear, the gunk will not come off, so I just lay some grease on it and forget it ?? Keep in mind I am a computer programmer by trade and if something is simple I seem to always find a way to make it overly difficult and overly complex. Also, I read between the lines way too much. Way too much....... Thanks again for your time and effort.

I dont remember which code is for which check valve but you will need to replace the check valve. Most common one is the one behind intake, if it is remove intake and then remove rubber hoses going to valve.More than likely valve will be hard to remove from metal piping.I have taken the pipe off from back of driver cylinder head. There is a 15mm bolt head holding it on.It was easier to seperate valve from pipe on a bench.Hope this helps and good luck.

Friend of mine had same problem with his, took them off cleaned them, re-installed and the code came back (After he cleared the fault code of course)

It turned out to be the Catalytic Converter dissentigrating, replaced the faulty cat (both actually) and problem solved - so just as a heads up you also know it might run deeper for you!

I do hope it is just the valves

Thanks,Matt

I continue to be amazed at the level of personal caring, cooperation and excellent 'how-to' information that is totally commonplace on this forum. We should all remember to sometimes take a step back and mentally take it all in and mentally snap a photo of the totally cool way that folks work with each other for a common good without the urgency of "money".

I am not a big "team" person and over time I guess all the rotten apples I have pulled off the tree of life has kind of spoiled my attitude relative to my faith in the goodness of man.

However, the Corvette Forum, especially in the C5 section, simply amazes me how folks will come out of the woodwork to try and help a guy or gal out of a jam. The jam can be a small inconsequential issue or a major 'game-changing' problem, but these well intended folks come of their own free will and have their cards turned face-up. Their only intent is to help another Vetter owner resolve whatever problem exists.

Free information. Free experience. Free guidance. Free shoulders to lean on. Free ideas to share. All in the name of helping one another. Man, it don't get no better than that!!!!!!!!

Well done EVERYONE on this website !!!!!

I am proud to be a member of such a fine upstanding group.

I guess one could say we have created "Corvette Nirvana".......
