My neighbor came back to me after I sold him a 93 Ruby Red C4 and told me his brother just looked up the car on the internet and it HAS A LT5 that's putting out 400hp! Man what a dumb nut I was for selling him one so cheap!
No kidding...... I just turned and went back inside.
To some, owning a Corvette is just like owning any other car - it's transportation and they feel no need to learn about the history of the model. And that's OK, not everyone is a die hard car enthusiast.
I agree that not every owner needs to know everything about their car. Some people just like the look or whatever and that's good enough. I think the issue is when people claim to know a lot about their car or about cars in general and state information that is not true.
I'm careful with information. If I know something, I will tell people, however, if I don't know something, I say, "I don't know" and hope to learn the info from someone who does.
Having a Corvette and meeting people driving Corvette's that know nothing about its heritage is not uncommon. I will admit that club members in this area have a good working knowledge, maybe all are not totally into the complete history, but on a whole they know at least what generation they drive and if it is a roadster or coupe.
I sure do not lose any sleep over what some people know and don't know. I do however try and enlighten them when they make a statement that is incorrect and hope by doing so I don't upset them.
just the other day i read a post here on the forum from a guy who was going to buy a second c5. he ended up not getting the car he originally posted about but instead bought a "98 z06." i about died i was laughing so hard when i read it.

I was at a show and this guy came up to me and my friends. He says he thinks that the C5's and C6's are nice but he will keep his C4 because it has so much more leg room...... We all just looked at each other in amazement... He was serious too...
He was wearing gold rimed glasses, gold chains, gold bracelets, gold rings, and he looked like a pimp from the 70's. We never bothered to go look at his ride. I think I would have died laughing at it....
Some have NO clue.
And yea I hear people saying they have a 03 anniversary car. When I ask them what color it is, there answer is never right... I just nod my head and agree.
I love going to a dealership and listening to the dealers talk about the car's/vettes they sell. I love correcting them in front of other people. It amuses me I guess...
I have seen a few post in this topic about how dumb people are because they say they have a 2003 Corvette Anniversary editon. Maybe when you meet these people, instead of thinking that they must be the dumbest person alive, stop and think. First off many of these are first time Corvette owners. They have possibly always dreamed of driving the Great American Sports Car, and they have reached that point in their lives where they can own one. In reality all 2003 Corvette's are an anniversary cars, not the special anniversary package, but still an anniversary. Don't forget all 2003 Corvette's came with the 50th Anniversary front and rear emblems as well as it was on the key blanks and on the Owners Manual. The coupes and convertibles also had the 50th anniversary emblem on the tech and speedometer. So I would say they all have a 50th anniversary car, just not the special package.

Thank you, because this was me around five years ago. My purchase of my first Vette with all my ignorance with it. Now I'm little smarter, but not by much from all you great people on this forum. I'm still learning and still have a ways to go. Thanks guys!! L8R THE FLASH
Pays to know your cars, trust me when I say that the dealer KNOWS that that 96 vette doesnt really have that LS1 that he put in the advertisement.. I see that alot.. Oh and advertising F-bodies and Impalas as having "vette" motors.. The f-bodies may be really close but its still not the real deal.
The F-body motor is the same, it even puts more power to the ground due to the solid axle. You learn something new everyday. Granted its not a Vette but its just as fun to drive.

Well said.
I have no idea what the "Proper Terminology" would be for my car if not a 50th Anniversary Corvette. It says "Anniversary 50" right on the badge. I definately know the difference between the 'Anniversary Edition Corvette' and my car but seriously it just comes down to semantics.
i am really shocked at the lack of knowledge when it comes to people and the difference between the years of a corvette and even more so the different models...even talking to some corvette guys they still get lost in the most basic talk of vettes!
I've fighting ignorance since 1973...it's taking longer than I thought.
