i am really shocked at the lack of knowledge when it comes to people and the difference between the years of a corvette and even more so the different models...even talking to some corvette guys they still get lost in the most basic talk of vettes!
I'm with you; a guy once tried telling me he had an SS C6 vette a couple of years back. I posted a thread, but it got locked or very few response, I can't remember.
I am with you guys as well. I know a fair amount,,but am nowhere in the ballpark of being an expert. What I DO find amusing are guys that have no clue TRYING to sound like one!! Wonder just how many C5 coupe owners found out through various conversations that they REALLY owned a Z06!?!

To some, owning a Corvette is just like owning any other car - it's transportation and they feel no need to learn about the history of the model. And that's OK, not everyone is a die hard car enthusiast.
Sitting at the gas station pumping gas yesterday,
a 19 year old kid walks up and is selling wheel cleaner and wants to give me a demonstration while i pump gas on one of my wheels.. he goes and i quote...
"Kid-man beautiful car, i have one sitting in the drive way"
"Me- ya shes my baby"
"Kid- Ya i have one of those sitting in my driveway i just love mustangs they are fast"
"Me- i dont need the demonstration thank you anyways..."
a 19 year old kid doesnt know these things? you dont need to be a car enthusiast to know the difference between a pony and a checkered flag..
i was actully mad leaving and prob wont go back to that gas station :-P
Pays to know your cars, trust me when I say that the dealer KNOWS that that 96 vette doesnt really have that LS1 that he put in the advertisement.. I see that alot.. Oh and advertising F-bodies and Impalas as having "vette" motors.. The f-bodies may be really close but its still not the real deal.
I still get a kick out of the number of people with 2003s that think they have the anniversary edition.
I was out if front of a tavern when a couple drove up in a black '03 and I complimented him and the car.
He smugly boasted it was an "Anniversary Edition" and when I tried to describe the actual "Edition", he looked at me like I was El Stoopido because the car was obviously black.....DER....
Oh well......
As said, if one doesn't know...at least don't try to fake that you do.

We enthusiasts on the forum are in fact the MINORITY. For every one of us, there are probably 50 other fellow owners who just think of it as a car.

...and I'm sure that "Anniversary Edition Package" cost him an extra $5K as a dealer add on option! As as well as the black premium color fee that also reduces the value come trade-in time. Love car salesman!

I agree. For many, a Corvette is just their current car. Sort of like the guy who pulled into the gas station in his new C6 back in 2005. I was there filling up my 2004 and said "Nice C6!" He responded that this is a "Corvette".
...what's worse is I don't think he realized that I also was driving a Corvette.
