I've been riding bikes for around 40 years,,and wave all the time. It was just a natural progression with the vette!! Just acknowledging friends I haven't met yet:cheers :!!
I went 23 years between Vettes. I was glad to see that the wave was still there waiting for me when I got back. Washed her up today, took the top off and went driving. Three Vettes, two waves and one thumbs up. Made for a good drive. Welcome to the cult.
i can drive for days without passing another vette on the roads. remembering back to the late 50's, that was the way it was everywhere because there just weren't that many on the roads then. just part pof being in the "fraternity" of enthusiasts. if you pay close attention, you'll probably find that that older guy driving that new C6 couldn't care less and has about as much interest in being an enthusiast as he does drowning in his pool. he's more than likely driving that car because he feels the need to show off, can't afford a viper or ferrari, etc, and probably doesn't even know how to open the hood. you'll get most of your waves from the C5 and under drivers if my area is anything like yours.
WTF
That older guy in the C6 has probably been driving vettes since your momma was wiping your ***!
I wave at every Corvette ....but I'm also has been in this hobby for close to 40 years ... and the wave "seemed" to decline when the majority of Corvettes being sold were coupes instead of convertibles and really declined big time when Air Conditioning became standard...
Very common to read or hear complaints about THOSE new owners of C4's not waving...
Finally we discovered that most of the time they (c4 owners) did in fact wave but we could not see inside their cars like you can when a guy is in a ragtop with his hand above the windshield ...
I think this is also common among C5 and c6 drivers...you gotta look hard to see the wave...but in most cases it is there... so if you think you did not see a wave I'm betting for the most part you are wrong and the gut did in fact wave...
Only place I do not wave is when I am in Carlisle during the Corvette Weekend.. I just do not have that much energy... LOL
my girlfriend laughs at me as well.. because everytime i get a wave and wave back.. i get goose bumps and a huge smile on my face.. she thinks it hilarious..
in my area... 75% of the vette drivers ive seen have been women drivers.. and i see roughly 2 a day.. and thats on a bad day..
it makes me sad because MOST women do not wave.. maybe theres a Stipulation in the "wave" hand book that i am not aware of, or they just dont know about it..
my girlfriend ALSO laughs at me when i wave at these women and they dont even look at me, because i get a little upset and mumble angry thoughts to myself..
It's all part of the culture/brotherhood and appreciation for these cars and the others who own them. A very pleasant surprise when I bought mine a year and a half ago
The WAVE goes back many years. I remember it from when I drove a Vette in 1974 and it probably goes back more than that. Motorcycles used to do it but not much anymore. It's a good tradition for us to keep and I even wave when I'm in the Toyota.
I remember way back around 1961-62 my friend in his MGB waving to all the other sports car drivers.

I don't live in your area but at 66 years old I drive and enjoy my C5 and know how to open the hood and what to do when I get there. Perhaps your generalization of older Corvette drivers may not be as accurate for many parts of the USA.
If you see me on the road don't forget to Wave or to return mine.
Wow, someone had some "negative" spilled in their Corn Flakes this morning.
I guess my area is not anything like yours. Everyone waves, regardless of their age or what generation of Corvette they drive. I have read negative reactions like this about "The Wave" since the C4 was brand new and they always focus on owners of the newest generation. Maybe we should all try to have the enthusiasm equal to this new Corvette owner.
Have been doing the wave for many years. Corvettes, bikes and Jeepers!
