Default Corvette Cult?

I got my first Vette at the beginning of the year and this weekend was the first time I was able to take the girlfriend on a long cruise out to VA Beach. Well on the way out we passed or got passed by four other Vettes and the other drivers waved as we went by and then this afternoon we pulled into a parking lot next to another Vette and had a small conversation with that owner and then later on got waved at by two other owners during this afternoon's drive. She thinks it funny how every other vette driver waves as we pass each other. She thinks its like a cult that vette owners have going on and finds it very funny.

So if you pass just wave at her and you will get a big smile and wave back.

Ric

It's the "WAVE." Most Corvette owners do it. It is another of the many cool things about owning this machine.

The WAVE goes back many years. I remember it from when I drove a Vette in 1974 and it probably goes back more than that. Motorcycles used to do it but not much anymore. It's a good tradition for us to keep and I even wave when I'm in the Toyota.

It's all part of the culture/brotherhood and appreciation for these cars and the others who own them. A very pleasant surprise when I bought mine a year and a half ago

The WAVE is like a secret handshake but out there. With a wave you know you're part of a community of enthusiasts. Its a good thing.

i can drive for days without passing another vette on the roads. remembering back to the late 50's, that was the way it was everywhere because there just weren't that many on the roads then. just part pof being in the "fraternity" of enthusiasts. if you pay close attention, you'll probably find that that older guy driving that new C6 couldn't care less and has about as much interest in being an enthusiast as he does drowning in his pool. he's more than likely driving that car because he feels the need to show off, can't afford a viper or ferrari, etc, and probably doesn't even know how to open the hood. you'll get most of your waves from the C5 and under drivers if my area is anything like yours.

Wow, someone had some "negative" spilled in their Corn Flakes this morning.

I guess my area is not anything like yours. Everyone waves, regardless of their age or what generation of Corvette they drive. I have read negative reactions like this about "The Wave" since the C4 was brand new and they always focus on owners of the newest generation. Maybe we should all try to have the enthusiasm equal to this new Corvette owner.

I spent about 15 minutes yesterday afternoon talking to an older gentleman who had pulled up at a drive up ATM right after me. He wanted to know all about the car. It turned out he had owned a 65 roadster, a 66 coupe and a 68 convertible. I bet that if he was still driving a Corvette he would have waved.

You can put me on the list of thinking the "wave" is cool. I realized the wave about a month after I bought it when it hit 70 for the one sunday in VA and I took it for a long ride. It kind of reminds me of boating in missouri when everyone would wave to you as you passed on the water.

She didn't think that buying the vette was a good idea when I did it and she could not understand why but she was supportive of what I wanted. Well after the long cruise yesterday and the first ride with the top off today she is hooked to the relaxation that this car brings. I only have one regret about buying this car and it is that I should have done it sooner instead of getting the other toys.

When I got my AE back in 2003, we attended the 50th Anniversary Celebration in Bowling Green and Nashville. As you can imagine, there were thousands of Vettes and their owners. It was such a spectacle.

My wife put it best after just a couple of days. Owning a Corvette is for most of us a LIFESTYLE that allows you to contribute, learn and enjoy. Since my great day in January of 2003, it has been GREAT

One of these years I will drive a Viper, and I will still wave to Vette owners.

I've owned Vettes off and on for about 25 years and still think it is when other drivers wave. Just one of the nice things about being in the Vette ownership club.

I noticed this as well when I first got mine. There are a select few who opt out on the wave I have noticed.
