opinion please
Well - today i blew up either the tranny (M6) or the diff or both
going from first to second to third all at 5000 rpm
(foot off gas during shift)
upon letting the cluch out once in third, grind grind grind
i am almost sure i did not miss the gear or the cluch
the motor has dyno at 450 hp at rear wheels so it is built and the rear was built to 390
fluid everywhere brown smelling like motor oil
it rolled ok in neutral and after stopping, i put in first and it would start to go but then grind grind grind
fluid all over the bottom of the car
not sure if it matters but just changed the oil and the mechanic said he added a quart of tranny fluid - i confirmed it was dex III atf and it was
it is now on a flat bed heading to the tranny shop that my fishing bud owns
thoughts would be much appreciated.
thanks

You might want to post in the C5 Tech section - lots of tranny pros over there.

Just a guess, but I'm guessing you snapped a shaft in the tranny. Could be iither input or output shaft, but it ain't a good thing.

You should have gone and used CAGS 1 to 4 shift.
But that no fun with a Corvette. Hope it's not too expensive for you.

That sucks. Hard to know which it is until you tear it apart but most likely the tranny.
tranny isn't made for those numbers if it was left stock.

Doesn't sound good - best of luck getting the car fixed and back on the road.

i bought the car around thanksgiving
always wanted a vette
wasnt crazy about a heavily modded one but it was in great condition for a 2001
i have put 5000 miles on it since i got it basically driving it every day and everywhere
i really like the car and have been having fun driving it
work has been a real grind in this economy and driving it back and forth has been a daily escape
this forum is awesome - i dont post much but i check it out 4 or 5 times a week
i am not much of a mechanic and this job is way over my head for sure
i probably have been driving it a bit hard just having a good time nothing stupid and no racing ( i am still afraid to put it in competitive driving mode) but the darn thing just begs to be driven
thanks for the kind words

It certainly sounds like the tranny is gernaded!
You might look into RPM Transmissions and get one of their tranny's! They are virtually bullet proof!
and reasonably priced too!

Like I always say...If you're going to play, you're going to pay. I just hope it isn't too expensive. Good luck and enjoy the car.
