I like the double locking ones from northern tool better, since they have a locking pin for better safety:
BTW, the 6 ton double locking ones are $39.99 on northern tool's website for the pair... the 3 ton ones are $26.99
Those locking ones look better than most but I don't trust any jackstand. I use cribs (10 inch) under each wheel, made them myself, and they are totally safe. I can shake my vette from side to side when they're on these and it doesn't move an inch. It'a a PITA but it is as safe as the car sitting on the ground, which I totally like. I drive the front up on ramps, then jack the front up with the floor jack. Slide the ramps out, then slide the cribs under it. Let the floor jack down, then jack up the back and slide the cribs under the rear tires. The slide the floor jack out. Nothing in the way of working underneath. Pita but works like a charm. I have a set of 6 ton aluminum jackstands, but never use them. I do use the floor jack from Harbor Freight (same one just mentioned). Had it about a year, no problems, works great.

How do you do a brake job w/cribs.....or change your shocks.

Thanks much for this. I agree about the locking pin for additional safety.

Jack it up with the floor jack, put one cribs under each side of the cradle. Do the same for the rear. Works great. I also use a 2X6 X 25 on the floor jack lift. Have L brackets on the 2X6 so it lines up perfect. With all 4 cribs the car sits level for an oil change, checking the gear lube or adding lube. I made my cribs a long time ago, right after the wheel was invented, LOL. They're made from 2X12. 6 of them bolted together (25" long) with chocks on each end. They're heavy and like I said a PITA because of that. But they are so sturdy and the width of my tires so their is no overhang from the tires. It's a good balance. You can buy the plastic ones from race ramps, I think a couple hundred dollars for two. Mine cost $30 back when I made them and as long as they work, I'll stick with them. Not fancy or pretty but they work great. BTW, I don't use them very often, thank goodness.
Just bought that jack yesterday. I saw a lot of guys here had it and loved it. Looks well built for the money. It has a nice lifting range too. And get a $59.99 coupon from the auction site. I did and they took it, no questions.
Where on fleebay did you get the coupon? Would be nice to save almost $60

Search 'Harbor Freight Jack' . It'll turn up all the jack coupons and then just look for the 2 ton low profile 67022 or whichever jack you want. I'll also send you a pm with a buy it now link for that jack.

I would like to see pic's of them in use. Sounds like a cool project.

I've bought and used other HF tools with great success, but I won't use their stands or hydraulic jacks. Lifting the car and keeping it there is too important.
I use 6 ton Craftsman jack stands, and when Sears stopped putting their brand on them I bought the Stinger 6 ton jack stands. These were actually beefier than the Craftsmans I had.
I lift the car with Michelin 3.5 ton hydraulic jacks like this one. I also have DIY wooden ramps after seeing a few accounts of Rhino Ramps busting.
Be careful and get the right equipment. What is a few extra hundred bucks to protect yourself?

I use the same floor jack as this one. Works great. This is the low profile & raises to 20 inches I think. Also have the aluminum jack stands from HB but rarely if ever use them. Will try and get some pics of my DIY cribs next week (out of town right now). It's the only time I feel safe under the car, actually went to sleep one day under it.
Again, I use the HB floor jack and no complaints. All my tool are Craftsman, been using them since I was a teenager, a few days after the wheel was invented. LOL
I have that jack............ it works good............ no issues and it put together real good as universal to open and close the valve not those cheap *** gears that always get messed up
I don't trust any jack or jack stand as I always use 2 methods to support the car..... put two milk crates under the car as a back up if you have nothing else........... hahah I know thats funny but a buddy has his car jacked up changing his oil and his old lady came out and let the jack down when he was underneath.... saying some **** like you love that car more than me... but he tossed a crate under the car just in case... save his life and let him know how his woman really felt about him!!!
