Default Lug Nut Socket/Air Compressor

I'm off to Harbor Frieght and was looking for some feedback on - what type socket to get that won't scratch up the lug nuts and/or rims - what do you all use, should I look for something special? And I'm thinking about a small air compressor for the garage - put air in the tires, run a air wrench, small jobs and not something that will be used day in/out, but can handled the tasks. Space a little problem what would I need as a minimum. Thanks

I think the lug size is 3/4 inch.
If you are concerned about scratching your wheels, you might try to get some of the plastic coating spray and spray the outside of the socket with it, to protect the wheel finish.

I have a small craftsman 110 volt air compressor that will handle most small jobs pretty well. It has a capcity of 15 gallons of compressed air,, That isn' t enough to run a bead blaster or do a paint job, but it will handle most small jobs quite well.
If you buy a impact wrench/driver get the red handled 3/4 inch one from Harbor freight, It has plenty of torque and I've had mine for many years with no problem. It runs about $80-100 if I recall correctly..

19 mm deep socket 6 sides, not 12 sides.

and 19mm impact socket will work.

That is what I use with an impact wrench.

Harbor Freight has a nice 7 pc 1/2" drive set item (40035)
Socket sizes 17mm,19mm,21mm,13/16",1",&1-1/16" (All 6 Points)
Nylon Inserts & outside vinyl coating , will not scratch rims or lug nuts.
Color coded for quick idenification.
Lifetime warranty

I use the 19mm (green) for the lug nuts & the 21mm(red) for the
theft prevention Gorrilla locks.

.75 inches is pretty much the same as a 19 mm socket. I doubt the larger 0.05mm difference on the 3/4 would affect anything. However, great point about using six sided sockets!

On a side note, I would use a 19mm socket even if they are the same.

When I use the Impact gun I only run it up to 75 lb ft or so. Then do the balance by hand.

Put a 3/4" six sided socket over the lug nut and wiggle. Then put the 19 mm six sided socket over the lug nut, it wont wiggle.

you will feel a big difference..

as an added precaution, i wrapped my deep impact socket with electrical tape (on top of the plastic sleeve it came with). works well and protects the rims.
