Well I'm going to be a father for the first time so I'm very excited about that. Only knew the girl for about a month before it happened, but oh well. Hopefully it'll all work out, lol. Anyway, long story short...
Do any of you take your kids in the corvette? I have a truck if need be, but the corvette is so much more fun to drive and gets twice as many mpg. I still have 5 months to go, but I'm just trying to get some people's opinions since I'm still new the corvette world and have never sean a child's car seat in one before, lol.
Yeah, driving a family around in a Corvette will be an issue for sure. If you can keep it, of course think carefully about the airbag vs a car seat and so on. I've got a grandaughter here who wants to ride in either one of my Corvettes (C-5 and C-6) and I just don't dare to take the chance.
That's what everyone keeps telling, but I'm going to hold onto the vette. I did sell both my motorcycles last week though. I never ride them anyway so that should cover the hospital bills. I'm pretty well established right now so timing is fine on my part. I figure as long as this girl can be a good mother and learn to play housewife, I can learn to settle. I'v been single for almost 10yrs so this is a big change for me, lol
So does anybody take their child in their corvette or is that frowned upon. I would think as long as you disable the airbag it would be ok.
Try not to sell it, but do what you have too. I sold mine when we had our first kiddo and it took me 23 years to get back into another one.
I think I would avoid taking the child in the Vette and opt for something with a back seat at least as often as I could. If it's unavoidable, then I would. It's a solid car and holds up well in a crash. Much better than some compact four door POS.

I too would opt for something with a back seat to transport the child in - that's just my personal preference until the child gets a lot older. Good luck with this - I hope it all works out for you and the mom.
The equivalent to this question is one that would come up back in the Horse-days. It would go something like this;
Guys, I met a girl at the Saloon and now we have a kid on the way. I'd hate to get rid of the horse but wonder if anyone has transported their baby/child on the horse. I'd rather not get a covered wagon if I didn't have to . . .

After the regular 2000 run got going they have included an airbag off button. Unfortunately I got an early production 2000(built 9/99) that doesn't have it !! When time comes for grandkids ,,I'll have to find out how to get a disable kit to install !! Congrats on being a daddy!! Take the time to enjoy them as they grow up,,,You can't believe how fast that happens!!!

I've taken my daughter in my Vette almost since she was born. She's 20 months now and LOVES riding in the vette. I DO turn OFF the air bag and I DO have her in an excellent car seat. I DON'T go on long trips or on the hwy. I DO drive very responsibly when she's with me and am very alert to what other drivers are doing.
I take my daughter to daycare almost everyday in the vette. That way I have it at work and can take it out at lunch. My wife picks up the kid after work, so I have a fun drive home (and I get better gas mileage than my other vehicles). Outside of those types of trips, we're usually all together, so we take a different vehicle.
Just be smart and be careful, which is what anyone should do in ANY vehicle with a child aboard. I think too many people get complacent thinking their larger vehicle will protect more or that just because the child is in the back seat everything will be fine. Those things are more safe than a vette, but ultimately it is the driver's responsibility to do all they can to insure a safe ride.
My 2 cents. Hang on to that vette as long as you can afford it.
Expecting my first in the nxet 3-5 weeks. After owning my 99 for 10 years now I decided to give up the vette, however I did the next best thing by selling it to my father, who is retired and has the time to maintain and enjoy it. I'm sure he'll stop by from time to time, afterall it's his only grandchild.

That's exactly what I was hoping for. I can easily take another vehicle if someone else is tagging along, but if it's just going to be me and my little buddy sometimes I thought it would be cool to let him/her ride in style.
