Would it be to get more performance or to simply move up to the next generation?
If the latter, I think it's important to remember that next April is when I'm hearing that the C7 will be out. If that's the case, you'll have spent a bunch of money to move up to a car that's still not the new generation.
just a style change. your right about the c7. Im sure c6 prices will come down slightly
I was in the same situation. My choices were heavy mod my c5, trade for c6 and minimal mods, or trade for c6zo6 and don't mod. I installed a supercharger on my C5 cuz it was more cost effective for me as the c5 was already paid off and I did not want a car payment with a c6 or c6z. if I could afford it, I would get the c6z, or new c7
I had the same questions last summer and went with the c6z. I had a hard time putting more money in an older car ( 98 ) so I found a lower miles 06z it just made more sense to me. I stilll like the looks of the c5 much better but I don't care how ugly my car is if it puts a smile on my face when I start it. Trust me I hated the front of the c6 as much as you guys do but those ugly looking lights really light up the road at night much better than the c5 ever did. I won't get into the whole performance difference its been covered to death. You always get the guys that say I can do this or that to my c5 to make it faster than the c6z and its true. Bottom line you are putting more $$$ in an older car to make it perform like a stock newer car. If you can get past the looks of the c6z go for it if not keep the c5 and be happy that you have one of the best looking cars ever built.
One last thing if you really do some research on the c6z you will see its not just about hp. Its a total performance package special frame, brakes, body panels, many other things go into it. So yes you can make the c5 faster by putting some $$$ into it but it is still not the same at all.
Please, don't take this post as a put down of the c5 because that is not my intent at all. I had my 98 for 6yrs and it was my first vette and I loved it. It was modded and pretty quick but the c6z is a beast in stock form. Remember any mod you do to a c5 you can do to a c6z as well. Just my .02 from a guy that has been there and done that
Good luck on whatever you do you can't go wrong either way
Good problem to have to deal with. I am in a similar situation with a beautiful 2000 C5, with less than 10K on the odo and just not enough time to driver her. I've made some upgrades (more show than go) and I'm perfectly happy with my prize but since I don't drive it a lot, the economics of moving to a C6, even if I liked the car. don't work out. Good luck with your decision.
