A few weeks ago I posted up about hydroplaning on the highway and cracking the bottom of my fender when I slide off of the road. Car is supposed to be finished this coming friday. I got the total bill today.
700 in parts (which i had already priced out almost to the penny)
and 2K in labor. 2K to take the old fender and wheel well plastic off, replace and repaint. That is crazy. But I couldnt find a used black fender and a new one needs paint anyway. So I just turned it in to the insurance. Looks like the rates are going to go up a bit now. I am also getting charged for them to remove each wheel and remount and balance plus an alignment. They said that if a tire is bad they will replace. I said, for the love of god do not put 4 new GM runflats back on there. If I need tires call me. Still 2K for labor. I am really in the wrong business.
I'd be surprised to find an insurance company that would swallow that that bill if all that was involved was your list!!?? Was it magnetic red or something??
Nope plain black. Insurance covered everything. They said that they will only total out if the cost is 50% or more of the blue book value. I am not sure what insurance company you have been dealing with but USAA rocks. They have a list of approved body shops for each area. As long as you use one of those, they dont question the estimate and guarantee the work for as long as you own the car.
Your insurance took it in the cinamon ring. That is a fooking crazy amount of money to just replace a fender. You aren't in the wrong business; you failed to do your homework before taking it in to be repaired would be my guess.

exactly what homework would that be? I was given the choice of 3 body shops by my insurance. all 3 quoted the same price. i could have used some other non usaa approved shop but then usaa could have said no on the estimate. either way it is only costing me my 500 dollar deductible with no rate increase so either way,
yeah took it hard on that one.. at least your insurance picked up the full bill. I just bought an aftermarket fender for under 200. if they charging you that much for labor ive been working in the wrong bodyshops too lol. Seems a bit high and being a black fender im sure that they arent even going to blend. Be sure it matches before you take it.
