Haha another thread where people think nobody can touch their C5. I can tell you for a FACT that it will be a drivers race. I ran when when I just had a vararam, he was bone stock. We raced heads up 3 times. I beat him once, and he got me twice. I ran a 13.09, a .05, and a .04. He ran a 12.9x on one run, and his other runs were bottom 13's but he got me on the tree. My car is a 6-speed so that doesn't help for the hole-shot, and yes I can drive. If u need proof look in my profile or in the C5 fast/quick list. Unless you are decently modded I would be somewhat worried.
T
A4's can be slow as hell if they're stock.

I disagree, i've raced a few of these and beat them with no problem. This was back when i only had a vararam. i'm not questioning your driving ability but maybe the guy you raced wasn't stock.

I find it interesting that when questions of whose car is better, most people want to decide the issue on a drag strip.
I didn't get a Corvette to go in a straight line. They go around corners quite nicely and quickly to boot.
In the early 80's I drove a GMC pick-up truck with an LT-1 in it. When challeneged, I always said, "best 3 out of 5 and I pick the tracks". Then I listed a drag strip, a mud bog, a dirt field, a beach and that orange grove over there...". The point being, if they wanted a race, they raced in a fashion that took into account how an why my truck was built the way it was....
So I would tell this person to meet you at a local Autocross event and sign up to take part.....take pride in the entire package that is the Corvette, not just the engine!
Then again, if he wants to compete in who can carry more kids, groceries and in-laws...you might not win. Of course, who would want to....
Since I now have a cam, all smack talk is usually squashed when I fire it up. There will always be some clown saying "My hot 100hp stang 5.0 or Magnum/charger/challenger/minivan hemi has more". Thats what makes us all gearheads. Smack talk is part of our DNA and it's what makes life so much fun, when you push the go pedal and prove your point!
Yea autocross is fine......but it's the dragstrip that shows absolute power!
My head still hurts from watching hours and hours of that Mechum Muscle Car auction in Kissimmee, Fl yesterday. Man what a bunch of beautiful cars and Vettes.

Ditto....the drag strip only tells one small part of the story.
I've been a Mopar guy all my life, but the Charger is an overweight butt-ugly excuse for a car. It's like we used to say about 10-second VW's - "ok, but it's still a Bug". Do a few quiet mods and let him keep talking smack. Then get him and the people at the office out to the track so you can wipe this guy up in front of everbody. Done deal.
Sounds like he fits the line in my sig under the picture.
It is hard to believe that a charger weighs more than 4k LBS. That is one heavy car! The corvette weighing less than 3300 lbs really helps it out. Weight is the enemy of any car. Power helps, but that is a lot of weight to push around. I would be shocked if you didn't win.
Then too, frontal area and cd give an edge to the C5.
I have run a number of modified ones at the track with my bolt on set-up, and have never had an issue. Stock for stock it would be a close race , if you can launch it you should win, if you are auto w/ 3.15's I still think you should edge him out.
Obviously on a road course or auto-x the vette has a clear advantage..
Just go to the track and find out, worst comes to worst you lose...then it's time to mod
but that would require us to beat on our $50k cars
I know crazy huh? They might melt, or break! Oh, wait, you can rebuild them with better parts?
On a serious note, with full bolt-ons I wouldn't worry about a charger/challenger unless it was cammed or had a blower. I havent seen one run 11's with bolt-ons personally, not saying there isn't one out there.
