The interior is fine, it's the quality if construction and materials used.
Well the interior has many, many ways to be changed by aftermarket vendor's there's no reason to just put up with any disappointment of the C5 interior. Personally I think the engineers and designers did a great job considering the financial constraints. I've done a lot with my interior, including the seat rebuild kit that forum member 'Maz' used and the results were great.
I read an article in one of the various car magazines that said something along the lines of "...the difference in cost between an interior of a car such as the Porsche and the Corvette is about $55.00 per car." This statement was meant to show that where Porsche is generally considered to have one of the best interiors in materials and workmanship, the Corvette is often cited for having one of the poorest interiors in these categories. The article went on to say that if GM upped the price of the car by this exact difference in cost, it would amount to a $55.00 increase.
It is also worth noting that GM makes a killing selling "Anniversary Editions," "Carbon Editions," etc. which often consist of little more than a different color for the interior, and some different stiitching on the headrests. In my opinion, GM will not upgrade the interior until forced to do so by competition. Our Corvette exists because Ford brought out the T-bird and GM felt it had to compete. The C5 is the car it is in large part because GM saw the threat from the Nissan 300ZX, and Honda S2000. If the C7 gets a premium interior it will most likely be because GM recognizes that folks who are willing and able to lay out 65 large for their Lexus, Infinities, M-Bs, Audi's etc. would probably pass on a car that costs this much money but looks like a Camry on the inside.

I was not looking for a C5. We had a cruise-in at our local Chevy dealer and I drove my black C4 Vert to the cruise in. One of the salesman asked me to help move the line of C5's to a different part of the lot. I couldn't believe how much easier it was to get in and out of the C5 compared to the C4. Also I loved the throw-back to the look of the 66 and 67 Vettes as far as the placement of gauges and I loved the water-fall. I left there with a white C5 Vert.
There truly isn't anything wrong with the C5 interior. Brand new it looks pretty darn good and yes of course it could be better. When you compare it to the other cars in it's class of performance you are dealing with vehicles with a much higher sticker price. Compare a new Z06 with it's comparable class. The 911 turbo, the F430 or the Audi R8. These cars are made by companies that produce quality products for a higher price. What makes the Corvette a bargain is that they use a primitive, efficient engine with a light weight body and chassis with assembly line parts from other vehicles in GM's arsenal. If they didn't use these the products the price would be significantly higher and not nearly as much of a performance bargain. The Corvette is the American performance bargain of the last half century. Of course my opinion is up for debate.
I have a friend who owns a Honda S2000. When he first sat in my c5, he loved the interior and said that compared to his, it was much better. He went for a ride and commented on how it made him feel like he was in a fighter plane.
I have no problem with the interior. It actually was another reason that I bought a c5 instead of a c6. The c6 inerior feels more ricer-like to me. Just my two cents.
I link the interior I just wish some of the interior pieces were a little more special and did not share the corporate parts bin with the rest of the GM line. The radio is the exact same as in the truck line and even the lonly cavalier. I had a 2002 convert camero and it even had radio controls on the steering wheel, nothing like it on my 2003 vette.
ok, this is a car that uses the same parts bin from gm, cost effective, everyone from mb to porsche uses the same parts bin. i think the interior is first rate, no complaints here, im here for the full frame, rear mounted tranny, lightweight body, and near exotic performance, if this car had alcantara wrapped dash, carbon fiber accents, and other amenities, it would be passed on to us, thus, c6z being 85k+.......if I wanted a technological hub, i woulda bought a bmw 335, then again, i want a fast car, and bang for the buck, not audio equilibration abilities and scrolling through a menu to put it in performance mode

I like the interior just fine. Could they have made it better, sure but it comes at a cost. I think they hit a good balance between cost and quality as far as the interior goes, however it's clear that they put most of their engineering budget to performance and reliablity as the C5 is one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned.
I also think, as others do, that the overall layout is great.
I do think that materials could be improved, but the dash layout works really well, and looks very nice.
The seats(z06) lack some support, but I do prefer the C5 to the C6.
Just my opinion!
glad to see I am not alone, I love the interior. I have made small changes, floor mats, shift boot, e brake boot, door pulls, and console cover. went leather and red stitching. I also could use seat covers some time, but, in reality they have held up well for a car that is going on 13 years old.
What's wrong with our cup holder. Put some leather/vinyl cleaner in a Styrofoam cup, punch the "go fast" peddle to the floor and your well on your way to a complete cleaning of your interior!!!
The interior is a TOTAL POS! GM uses the crapiest materials in it to increase its profit margins.
For all of you who love the interior.....perhaps you need to step into a German car and let me know how you feel......I also have an Audi and Benz, and their interiors are real quality.
GM interiors including the Corvette are among the worst in the world. Economy brands such as Hyundai superseded GM years ago.
LOVE the vette, especially as a track car.....but hate GM and all American car manufacturers....all %&^%^&!!!!
I love how they continue to make POSs that are close in price range to amazing cars.
My buddy has an E63, and Caddilac is always trying to convince him that the STS V is better......yeah.......SURE
Ok, im going to get flamed, I know. But I like the interior and don't see why it gets bagged on so much. The grab bar and double cowl design harken back to the old days and looks really good. I love that i have a center console (even if it is not deep) and a glove compartment. The black lights fo the gauges, very cool. The soft button switches for the doors, and I find the sport seats to be comfortable. Over all, I think the style is good on the interior, and i like it.
I think the interior design is great. I just wish the seats had a better quality of leather. Oh yeah, the cupholder, would it have driven the price that much higher if they had given us one?
The viper that is considered more exotic and has a much higher price point does not have cup holders either.
