You seem to be forgetting that for most of the C5's life, a "nav" system meant having a competent passenger and a well-stocked glove box.
Aint that the truth... I use a portable unit so that I can use it in whatever car I'm in. In the Vette I use that shallow cupholder for the mount point and the plug is right there. Nice short cable.

The delaminating door panels are the worst flaw for me and arguably the most expensive thing to "fix"
I'm not so sure I agree that it had to be made so cheap to keep the cost down. Perhaps more to do with GM increasing the profit margin? I built a totalled 03 Jag S Type for my girl friend. So the window sticker on it was 49,500. Isn't that about the same as a C5 was new? Absolutely no comparision in the interior and Alpine sound system. And a 4 door sedan has to cost more to trim out than a 2 seater. Heck the build quality of the whole car is superior.
I agree the basic design and layout is quite nice. But I'm sorry, the quality shouts cheap, plastic, Camaro to me. And I had a few so I should know.

It should be like the days of old, when you whent to a car dealer and you picked out a car and all the extras that you wanted ,. Iam sure that GM reads these forums and if the do why not offer the ctsv interior for the best AMERICAN SPORTS CAR EVER BUILT. when you build a car of this quility no expense should be spared, this is my 2 cents. all in all I have loved all of my 3 vettes that I have owened, and essepecialy this 2000 coupe 6 speed. (GINO)
Bought a $1 cheese shaker at $1 store took off top turned it over and mounted my suction mount to that.
The other way I'm working on now is to take up the rubber insert and mount a slide clip under that. Then you use a flexitube with a tension clamp mounted on it and you got it.
I'll take pictures and post them in the next couple of days. The car is at my shop about 45 mins away right now.
I like the interior just fine. Could they have made it better, sure but it comes at a cost. I think they hit a good balance between cost and quality as far as the interior goes, however it's clear that they put most of their engineering budget to performance and reliablity as the C5 is one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned.
This is spot on. It is affordable performance and a great platform to customize to your liking. If you don't like the seats and leather, then replace it. I know it costs, but it would cost way more if GM did it.

Thanks!! Right now when I use the gps in the Z it's mounted IHIDFOTW on the console by the ashtray door. (I Hope It Doesn't Fly Out The Window)
+1 For liking the interior, I also don't drink or allow drinks in the car so the cup holder is just my cell phone holder, which works perfect. I think it's as simple as understanding what the car is and realizing if you want an awesome interior then you buy a luxury car or exotic. Corvettes are about performance.
Easy fix. Go to autozone buy a ratcheting dual cup holder. It will hold a 6oz drink as good as a 64oz drink while your banging the gears. Works great !!!! It also has a place for you cell phone, paper/pen and a couple CD's if you need it ~ $8.95.
For the record - I like the C5 interior. I don't think it looks cheap at all.
However, I am not a fan of Chevrolet interiors. But, they are getting better. I wasn't crazy about the C5 shift **** or shift linkage in the Vette though so I replaced that with B&M shifter and C6 shift ****. I like it much better now. The only other $50 change I made was gage bezels to break up all that black in the instrument panel. It's perfect now.
I'm thinking about upgrading my stereo so that it will have Bluetooth, DVD, MP3 jack, SD Slot that wasn't available in 2003. It will cost me about $500. So, that's not a big thing to me.
What radio do you plan to use, Mecinoid? I still have the cassette with the added 12 CD changer and would love to upgrade, but not sure what to use.

What's the deal with those gauge bezels? Seems like a huge job that has lots of possibilities of failure.
Try owning a couple of C4's, the earlier version and the later version interiors. THEN tell me how bad the C5 interior is, I'll laugh in your face! My C5 interior is absolutely incredible and gorgeous! I still have my 88 Torch Red C4 interior that took me a couple of years to work out the horrible ways they designed it. The KIA Sorento interiors they transplanted in the C6's are an abomination!
OK, start laughing.
I don't know about the 88 but I thought the interior was cheap in my 90, until I bought a C5. Absolutely no comparison.

they didn't have to make it cheap but they did.
The interior in my 99 STS is night and day as compared to my vette. It's actually the nicest interior I've ever seen personally and up close. Actually it looks pretty similar to what you posted here.
The cost of my STS new was 36K, the cost of my FRC was 39K and change. My STS has the Northstar and so many gadgets to this day I don't know what they all do, or don't use them enough to remember what they do. And when you look at the leather you know it's quality.
I agree the layout is "OK" in the C5 but looks cheap. The first thing my nephew said when saw it was, this looks nothing like a vette, it looks like every camroa and firebird I've seen. Nothing like your 90.

Planning on installing the Pioneer AVH P3300BT touch screen (Minor mod required) I have this in three of my other vehicles. It's good enough for me. About the same sound quality as the Bose Unit now in the Vette but, louder and cleaner when turned up. Comes with: CD-DVD- SD Drive- USB- MP3 - BlueTooth -Rearview Cam input(s) and you can add a NAV later if you want to. Should cost me right about $450 installed. Right now on 16GB Chip I have 53 albums and 16 movies.
A larger chip would just make it too large a assortment to scroll through on the road.... So, I figure if I need more I'll just carry more chips. I've only played one or two CD's in them and a couple of DVD's because I like the SD Technology and quality on this headunit 720p in a 7" screen... Ahhh more than enough resolution. Plus, I can take the pictures right out of my camera and see them on the headunit.

I had to install them twice as the glue outgassed overnight and clouded up the backside of the lens. They could have mentioned that in the instructions.... Doh !!!! Double Doh !!!! And Yes, you have to go at it with tweesers and a steady hand. is lots of possibilities of failure. One being do not let any of that super glue get on the face of the gage or your finger or, your done and buying a new instrument face.
However, in the end; it was very worth it imo. It's a two day project due to the fact you have to let the glue dry before you reassemble.
Again, Doh
I think it classes up the interior without over doing it. Look better than in the pictures.
Edit: Oh, forgot to mention those are 24kt gold bezels that are discontinued now... Like I said looks better in person than it does in pictures. Goes with my gold Corvette rear lettering.

This is a Ford interior during the period in which Jag did not make any profit for Ford. Ford sold off Jag in 2008. Maybe one of the reasons Corvette doesn't have the upgraded interior is that it would have traded interior for performance and cost about $5K more if I remember correctly Vette was about $44K in 2003. Except 50th Anniversary Edition Package which was 5K more for HUD, Mag shocks etc... that the Jag doesn't have as far as I know.
