are they clear coated? I put a little polish to them & I got some black on my towell? some say you can't test them that way that some clear coat is very thin & polish will cut threw the clear coat?? thanks tom
I'm thinking of engraving the Spokes on the wheels - I not sure if I need to strip the whole wheel of the clear coat or just the spokes - On a normal surface I would do my cuts & hit it with some 000 steel wool - then hand polish that area - not sure of the best way to handle the clear coat - If I remove it from just the spokes will it peel at the ends of the spokes? Will I be able to see the difference between coated & non-coated areas? What’s the best way to remove the clear coat? Take them to a chroming shop & let them dip the wheels? - Would be nice if I could just rub the spokes with steel wool to remove the clear - then do my thing & coat the spokes with ReJex?

Yes, they are clear coated and using any abrasive polish will scratch the clear/remove it. I've had very good luck just putting a coat of the same wax you use on the painted surfaces of the car to keep the wheels looking great.

Since the coating is clear, just assume that the area in which you will be working will be void of any coating. The remaining areas may not look as nice but the alternative of having an anodizing shop strip the entire wheel is both time consuming and somewhat costly.

The clear coat turned out to be a non-issue - I went ahead & cut the wheels through the clear coat - no peeling at all - went very smooth - mountain of work for an old guy because of the bulk & weight of the wheels but i'm happy with the results - tom
