Default different headlight problem (searched, no results)

my dad bought a c5 several months ago, aside from the gear problem he now has a different one. the pass side light operates as normal up/down function lighting everything, the driver side light will go through the up/down motion several times before stopping where ever it wants to. it does light up but when you turn the lights on, it will go up then back down and repeat about 5 times, everytime he turns them on or off any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Check the battery - make sure both terminals are good and tight and that the voltage is okay. These cars not only eat batteries but are very finicky about the electrical connections and the voltage. A loose connection or slightly low voltage will make weird things happen.

Good luck!

The headlights can be tricky to troubleshoot

The motors can cause problems, the connections may need cleaning and tightning, the headlight switch may be going bad.

My guess would be you have a problem with the nylon stop which is allowing the headlight to carry on cycling. Try adjusting it or it may need replacing

Theres a TSB out for a headlight that pops back up but it doesn't sound like your problem. The stop is #4 in the picture

Number: 00-08-42-002
Subject: Left Headlamp Door Does Not Stay Closed (Shim Headlamp Door Motor/Actuator and Replace Insulators)
Model Year: 2000 Chevrolet Corvette

Condition
Some customers may comment that the left front headlamp door does not remain closed after the headlamps are turned off. Others may comment
that the left headlamp door closes when the headlamps are turned off, but then reopens. In either case, the right headlamp door operates properly.

Correction
Important
The following information applies to the left front headlamp door motor/actuator only. It does not apply to and should not be performed on the right front headlamp door motor/actuator.

Install one washer (2) between the left headlamp door motor/actuator (1) and the mounting bracket (3) at each of the three attaching bolt locations. Also replace the
insulator (4) on each of the two mounting bracket travel stop tabs (5) as shown. For information on headlamp motor/actuator removal, see the Headlamp Motor/Actuator
Replacement procedure in the Lighting sub-section of Body & Accessories in the appropriate Service Manual.

I found this from 2kc5 which might help

At the top, rear of each headlight cover, you will see two white nylon blocks, about 1/2 inch wide. There is a third one under each headlight motor just outboard of the frame rail. They slide on to sheet metal tabs that are part of the headlight assembly frame. The lower one is the bump stop when the headlight closes. My guess is since there are two for opening and one for closing, the single one gets hit a lot harder and damaged. Try switching the lower one for one of the top two.
