Default 1214 code repair + driveability

I have to send my box to ABS fixer.
My question is when the box is off and you drive it , does the readout allow you to check tire preeesures and oil temp etc or does it just say sevrvice abs/traction control
Thanks

Sorry I don't have the answer for you, but I do have a comment....When I drove my C5 in tight city stop and go at creeping speeds, the ABS would prevent quick and positive brake application,...now this is at under 1 MPH so the speed sensors are not sending good signal to the computer..On several occasions I almost bumped the car in front because my brakes would not grab....I defeated the ABS and found that I then had full linear control of the brakes at all speeds, even at a creep. When cornering very fast and using brakes and throttle together, it now behaves 'normal', rather than throbbing and unstable. The trade-off is in wet weather straight line stopping....as with ABS you get the shortest safest stop, but I found the factory ABS to fail me totally in very slow stop-and-go creep conditions, and in very fast track style driving. Were it not for a FAST grab of the hand-brake I would have rear-ended several cars in close & slow conditions, even when virtually STANDING on the brake pedal. That really sucks...crappy engineering and really unsafe. Once again, a really nicely built set of mechanical systems is ruined by crappy junk unreliable and badly programmed electronics....GM should be ASHAMED for building such a great car with such a crummy electrical systems. Every major electrical part on my C5 has been replaced at LEAST once, some several times over. Even doing the bulk of the R&R work myself, I now have over 1/4 of my original purchase price spent on replacing electrical parts that have broken. One of these days I will reach my threshold for tolerance of such junk and put the car up on jack, and rip out every inch of crummy wiring and systems, and start over to wire the car for manual control of everything, with real switches and circuit breakers, and the HVAC doors controlled by push and pull levers....The old ways are still reliable. I have 30 and 40 year old cars that have NEVER had electrical issues of any kind....Modern cars will be crushed before their time, due only to crap electrical systems designed by idiot monkeys...as a qualified high reliability electrical systems engineer, I am qualified to have an opinion on this subject....It makes me want to do bad things to the idiots that designed these crummy systems, and approved their use in a machine that can kill the operator or passenger, and other innocent people , if the right cluster of failures occurs.

In spite of all this, I love my C5 and will do whatever it takes to keep it on the road, even it it means to eventually strip it of the monkey-designed, baboon-approved electrical systems, and to re-wire it like a race car.

Best wishes on your ABS situation....

^^^^^^^No idea what that rant is about.

But you can drive it without the box, just make sure you tape over the exposed terminals and remember, you won't have ABS/TC/Stability control. Just clear the error codes.

Perhaps you should read it! You will discover an engineering flaw in the ABS system at very low speed.

I have trouble believing you couldn't stop at speeds under 1mph...

You must have some other issue with your car when the ABS failed. I had mine fail too. I drove mine with no problems other than trying not to get into a panic stop situation. There were no low speed braking issues. The only problem I had was getting in a situation where I had to make a full on panic stop from 50 mph to 0 to avoid a car stopped in my lane on the highway. The tires were actually smoking and I skidded to within inches of hitting the person, a real dumbass. They were going to miss an entrance to where they were turning in so they stopped on the higway. Well, since the situation happened during the time my ABS module was on backorder from GM during my warranty, they also reimbursed me for four flat spotted tires. That worked out well for me.

Interesting post Jennifer

The book says you can safely drive the car with EBCM removed. You just lose the protection of the functions the EBCM controls; AH, TCS and ABS.

.......and to top it all off she just called Evil-Twin an "idiot monkey" :bb...it would be monumental if Bill was here to step in

From what I am told by my tech, the problem with the module is not anything to do with the design or manufacturing qualit.
It is the fact that the solder contains little or no lead, thanks to the ban on lead.
This is a common problem also with foreign cars also.

I drove for about a year without it while procrastinating the repair. No issues, but just make sure you're not putting yourself in a situation where you'd regret not having those systems.

I know it was implied, but to directly answer your question, yes you will be able to clear the warning on the DIC and use it regularly to show TP or whatever you want.

(Also drove mine without EBCM while it was out to ABSFixer, no problems at all)

Nope, you'll have to live with it till the module is fixed.
