Me too, would like to do this mod myself sometime....
Since I own a vert and drive top down 90% of the time, I really think I would benefit more from having the camera mounted in the front. I try to back in most of the time, however pulling in nose first can really be hazardous at times.
I have two camera's on my C5 coupe, one in the front and one in the rear they are hooked up to my rear view mirror, that has Nav system and 3 video hook ups. I have the rear camera set up to when the car is in reverse its on, if I want to see the front I have to select video 1, when the car is in any forward gears my Nav system is on. I got the mirror from Dennis at Double D Mods. The camera's I'm using are $30 camera's that were purchased on Flea Bay. The were not very hard to install.

Not on the vette but I put one on my wifes SUV. It also was the Kenwood one and it wasnt cheap (like $200), but it was the only one that had the specific mode I needed for her (spine surgery, cant turn head to far, this one has a display mode that gives you split screen 90 degrees left and 90 degrees right, for backing out of a spot at the mall).
One thing I would do if I were doing one on the vette is maybe look for a CCA rather than the CMOS type camera. The CMOS based ones are lower res and pretty crappy (IMO) in display quality, they are cheaper though.
YMMV
I fitted a cheapy which I found on E Bay. It was the type with a tuning **** for the frequency. I found it constantly drifted off and the picture went fuzzy. I pulled it out. I wish I'd invested a few more $$ on a decent one.
Have to say it was a bit OTT for a Vert.
One thing I've often toyed with is fitting an ovetaking camera. Driving on the left, the first peek out from behind a car I want to overtake is the worst moment. I'm often quite a way out onto the other side before I get a good look at oncoming traffic. If I did fit one it would have to be high resolution though.
