Sorry for your Corvette paint buddy
With the price of a Corvette, later comes the added price of repairing the vandalism from people who have no moral code. I am sure it will happen to me someday (probably after I get the road rash and all other paint defects fixed).
I am more afraid I will get my tires slashed, then I wouldn't be able to drive it at all, and I never leave it out with the top off or windows down, unless only for a minute.
I actually expect it, because I know how people are and I just try to deal with the stress of leaving it alone, as petty as I know it sounds that I stress out over it.
Good luck with the repairs, if someone keyed my car I would try and use it as an excuse to get some L5 fenders and work out a deal with body shop.
As others have said, we live during a time when it's very popular to vilify (and punish) the successful. The current administration thrives on this class warfare.
Best of luck with your repairs. I hate to say it, but whenever you park your Vette where you cannot see (and possibly rescue) it, you're vulnerable. I really wish it were different.
For this reason, I just drive my truck a lot of days. It's a nice truck but doesn't get near the attention that the vette gets.
Early last year, some random person sunk a pocket knife into two of my truck tires. I wanted to hunt them down but couldn't for the life of me figure out who/why.
I live in North Texas. About 1 year ago, the owner of a Hummer had his car Keyed. But he had a camera mounted in the side mirror (I think)and had excellent video of the jerk that did the damage. Surprisingly, it was a man about 60 years of age. Anyway, the idenity of the man was determined and he was arrested and forced to pay for the damage. Where is such a camera available ? There probably is no way to absolutely prevent this kind of vandalism but with some technology help maybe some could be prosecuted.
I think the Spy Store on Davis Blvd in North Richland Hills carry those type of camera.
and we wonder why some of the Forum Owners have low miles on their whips....its because of non sense like this...I know my car comes out once or twice a week and is always in my sightlines..
I know exactly what you mean. When I'm out on one my one or two weekly rides I always consider the parking area before deciding where to have lunch or get a beer. I need a seat in the restaurant where I can be able to watch the car as I eat!
I have a couple of health issues and have a handicap parking permit which really helps a lot. Most of those parking places give me five or six feet on each side.
Sorry for the OP's experience. It's just not my turn yet.
I think Travolta said it best in Pulp Fiction. Something to the effect of It would be worth getting key'd if you caught the guy doing it.
That's the line of reasoning I come from. If you're going to F with my stuff you just damn well better not let me catch you because it's going to get physical and most likely the punishment will outweigh the crime.
Before you fix and paint check out, Corvette Recycling. They carry original, painted parts for Vettes. Might be cheaper and look better when its all said and done.
This employee at work and I used to try and get the same parking space each morning (under a tree and close to the job site). She was not very friendly even though I tried to be on numerous occasions. I was long time, she was recently hired. One morning she came to work and founded me in her favorite spot and I suspected that it was her who did a key line on my vehicle(no cameras or witnesses). I gave up the parking space and comtempated revenge, but my heart wouldn't allow me to do it. In a week's time, she was fired (some other reason) and went off at the job site destroying records and property. The police had to be called and she was arrested.
