I dont think I have ever heard of anything called muffler eliminators but I did install a new cat back system that does not have mufflers, they are just straight pipes.

If you are talking just straight pipes, then yes, there have been some forum members that run those on their car.

Muffler elims are a C4 thing. They call them "straight-pipes" over here. I've heard a few C5's with this done, and they sound like crap to me. If you're looking for a cheap way to liven up your exhaust sound, get a used cat-back (borla, b&b, corsa, etc...) from the C5 For Sale section

I have muffler eliminators on my 94. They are just straight pipes with an LT1 tip.

I have seen straight pipes on a C5, but I have never heard these C5 pipes called muffler eliminators, but my guess is that is what the OP refers to.

Rex...nobody's going to like the sound of your car with straight pipes.

LG Streets with high flow cats and NO mufflers! Sounds like a track car and I wouldn't have it any other way...Thank god I'm in Texas and a county that doesn't have regulators or instigators!

Neighbors are already used to the ZR-1 w/ only cats and an X pipe.

Id say its about half and half, half the people that hear my car love it and the other half hate it but everyone love the way the pipes look. Those 4.25" tips do look pretty good though, plus they fill up the back very well.

I created " muffler eliminators" for my 00 targa. I cut the exhaust pipes right before the turns into the mufflers, welded in straight pipe sections from autozone and a couple of chrome tips and it worked great BUT it sounded like crap until I replaced the H pipe with an X pipe. Enjoyed it until the day I sold that car. I think most C5 guys just do the muffler bypass mod, but the straight pipe flows a little better IMO.
