One other item for Bill, if you don't have the belt on, there is no way you are going to get cold air, unless its cold out and the windows are down?
haha... I am not expecting cold air without the belt.
And yes I am using the window down method. (My idler pullies are squeeling, so I pulled the belt.)
I was trying to say the system will fuinction as it was without the belt... it was in reponse to the shop telling the OP it was a simple tensioner issue. I was calling on that.
It's low on freeon. The compressor needs to have at least 20psi of pressure on the "low" port in order to turn on. That is the reason why the button on the dash blinks a few times and then it shuts down.
just tried every button... Sometimes the yellow LED on the A/C button will blink 3-5 times then turn off. Others times it just stays solid for 2-3 seconds then turns off.
Doesnt matter if the defrosters are on or not or what mode the vents are in.
Whats the ambient temp reading in the car? If it says 60 even though its hot out, the ambient temp sensor is broken. The AC will not turn on if the computer thinks its cold outside.
The ambient temp sensor is located up front, passenger side of radiator.
My car did the same symptom yours is doing and after I replaced the sensor the AC worked!
