I just found out this morning that I am in need of a TPMS sensor for my 2000 Vette. The drivers side rear sensor is out and I am told they are around $185.00 a piece to replace. (2001-2004 years are half the price) Does anyone know if there is a fuse in this vehicle that I can remove to de-activate the whole TPMS system? I really dont need it and hate to spend $185 plus labor to get this fixed.
if you search on the forum there are quite a few threads on how to rebuild them. It is not nearly as dificult as I was afraid it would be. With a 2000, you are doing your first, but you will be doing the other three within a couple of years. I rebuilt all 4 on my 97 in an afternoon.

I am sorry, But you have a Corvette, Fix it the right way. You can find them for a lot less than 185 each. Don,t mickey mouse your car. There is a right way and a wrong way to doing things.
Just my opinion.

So I did go up to Discount Tire this afternoon. Found out they can order me two new sensors for the rear for $98 a pop.the guys says I'm looking at $205 installed. I did make sure to tell him that they are different from the 01-04 Vettes. He said they are for the 00' Vette so I guess I will find out Thursday if they fit. A lot better of a price then I was originally thinking.

Are you a politician because that is one of the most vague statements I have ever read on this board.

I happen to agree with him on this. The car is designed to work with these systems all working together not only for the car itself but to help keep the driver safe. Not trying to be onry or anything but trying to disable or remove active systems is not the best idea in my opinion plus any possible following owner will have issues too.
I think I bought the curse of the Vette's. I bought this car last December with 53,000 original miles on it. Beautiful car I cannot complain. So far I have already replaced the oil pressure sensor, the whole stereo unit with an aftermarket, the AC/climate control because the lighting went bad, the turn signal switch because that went bad, my hazard switch is starting to go out on me now and I have 2 rear tire sensors that just went out. Cant win

I just in the last few months bought new tires, (Michelin's & a complete new set set of TPSM), I did so because the old ones were original equipment, 8 years old and I didn't want to have to break the bead of the new tires anytime soon in the future. I bought Michelin Pilot Sport ZP's and I'm hoping the the sidewall of the tires holds really well, which is the case as my digital readout on my DIC is steady every morning for the last two months. Now on my 03 the TPSM are not as expensive as yours, but I remember someone who rebuilds them for the 97 to 2000 or 2001. I'd look around and see if you can't find them cheaper. It's a Major PITA when your DIC keeps sending you error messages despite your knowing about the problem already. Good luck !

53k miles on the clock is strange to be having problems unless the car has been sitting for long periods of time. What many people need to know too is that nothing lasts forever and we're driving computers on rolling chassis. Things will fail. You wouldn't like the list of things I've replaced on my '99 as its long but not that bad except for the transmission which was a nightmare on my car, but the rest of failures were normal wear and tear .... and some cheap stuff GM put in it. Plastic gears where it should have been metal or something stronger and so on. Electrical switch's contacts that aren't up to par and etc...BTW, I'm way over 300k miles on mine
