So my transmission went out in my 2002 zo6. I have a replacement transmission. I was thinking about changing out my stock clutch while I'm up there. I'm wanting a spec. Do I need to change flywheels? Can I use my original
I've heard it's a good idea to change the flywheel when changing the clutch. You might be able to get away with a resurface if you were staying with a stock clutch, but you said you wanted a Spec. Get the l/w flywheel and enjoy the quick revs.
It's a good idea to replace it while you're already in there working on the trans and clutch. Only a couple hundred more in parts, and no additional labor. Also be sure to replace the pilot and throwout bearings.

Don't do the work twice.
While you're at it, get the factory shop manual from Gene, it will save you a lot of money after this first project. You will also get the exact torque specs and pattern to tighten the flywheel/pressure plate bolts to.
Get ARP bolts.
Do not forget to align the shifter after you're done. I did not align the shifter and was popping out of first until a member helped me figure out the problem.
It is not a good idea to run aggressive friction materials with cast iron flywheels as they can explode. That is why our kits include Billet Steel SFI certified flywheels. They also include a new pilot bearing along with release bearing and the instructions to guide you through proper installation. Feel free to call me with any questions.
