I'm thinking of changing the plugs and wires on my 99 convertible. Shes all stock with 67k on it. I bought her two years ago she runs just fine. I've got a little extra bonus money and thought I'd flip for some hi-tech plugs. Whats the latest? Is it worth the extra $$? Let me know what your experiences are. Thanks!
you already have the best plugs ever made already on it. stock plugs are good for 100K miles easy. You can also go with the NGK TR55s which are really good for like 5 bucks each, or you can go back with the stock iridium for like 7 each. Go with the GMPP wires. They fit perfectly and allow you to reuse the heatshields with no problems. The LS ignition is supposedly pretty near perfect as is.
Also add the GM Performance red wires in as well. Most likely you will destroy one or more wires removing them. Might as well not worry about it and install a new set.
I used the iridium Delco plugs on mine at about 70,000 mi. Don't forget to use the anti-seize stuff on the threads in case you have the car long enough to need changing again. I also put new delco wires on at the same time. You may break the old ones when you remove them.
Do the GM Performance wires come in black or only red. No offense to anyone but I just do not like the color red. Maybe something red traumatized me as a child.

I run NGK - BR7EF's in my Vette since I am Supercharged!
But what you need to get is NGK TR-55's and gap them at .055 and you will be set
At 70,000 I had a wire burn in two. Make sure you put your new wire as far away from the manifolds as possible. I use NGK TR-55's because I like changing my plugs every year. It lets you know if there is a bad cylinder developing......sometimes. Yeah and they were $2. My old plugs had worn to 60 thousandths and that is too much. I gapped the new plugs at just over 50.

Wouldn't just pulling and examining the plugs tell you the same thing?

Only red as far as I know.
Things to consider:
- Work on a cold engine.
- Use aluminum anti-seize on the plug threads.
- Use dielectric grease on the plug boots.
- Torque the plugs.
- On the driver's side, remove the AIR value, two 10mm bolts and rotate it out of the way. Makes the driver's side a piece of cake to do.
Ok guys. Thanks a lot. Very good info here. I'll make my plug choice. And throw in a set of wires. I know its a straight deal but does anybody have a step by step with pics? If not maybe that'll be my contribution for the help.
