I really don't think that's true. There is a much larger learning curve to properly applying vinyl wrap compared to plasti-dip. I have watched several vinyl wrap demo's from experienced applicators at the Orlando Sign Expo. I have tried simple installation of numbers and letters on my semi and it is a real trick to get exact placement correct and not have any bubbles. I can't imagine applying a large sheet of vinyl. Trying to get proper allignment without bubbles underneath. I don't have one single bubble using plasti-dip. Of course, you can try it like the pros, lay a large sheet of vinyl on your car and then cut it with a razor knife. They claim they can cut only through the vinyl and not score your paint underneath. As a beginner like myself.......I would not even try that.

Then what happens when you screw it up? With the Dip you just peel it off and start over. No big deal and not much cost involved. With vinyl..........you would be very lucky to remove it and be able to reapply it. It would be expensive to have a new piece cut. Not to mention the cost of having a custom design cut from a graphic vinyl company. Their pricing is for the pre-cut templates, not a complete custom wrap. That would be a lot more expensive then a few cans of plasti-dip.

I only used about 6-7 cans for this design. I don't even have 100 bucks in this and the time involved taping is probably less then the time involved applying vinyl.

Now I'm going to peel it all off and try something else. Try that with vinyl and see how much that costs you.

Go here and check their prices on simple pre-cut stripes: http://www.vettestripes.com/order.html

Most all their stripes are over 250 bucks. Are you going to just peel those off and buy new ones every time you want to try something new? I don't think so. Even their simple GS fender stripe is over 80 bucks(just found one they sell for over 25 bucks, not bad). My GS stripes cost less than 7 bucks (not even close to one can) and took less than 20 minutes to tape and paint.

Cool, but I think they should give you a few free cans of product, unless you're going into the biz of doing your thing for others, and it's free promo for your new gig... I'm just sayin'...

I might peel this temporary stuff off and go back to driving a boring solid color car again. People don't even notice those vettes, kinda like driving around in a 4 door Hyundai. Nice actually. But if I do paint this permanent then I will have to tint my windows so I don't feel like I have to acknowledge the people giving me the thumbs up.

Here is a couple pics of the hood that I did over.

MUCH better

Do you have any closeup pics of the texture of the plasti-dip? Is it smooth or textured? Is it really rubbery and thick? I get the impression that it's rough looking like a spray-on truck bedliner, not glossy. Exactly how easy is it to pull off? Would you ever worry about getting it snagged on a wash mitt and peeling it back?

How is it holding up?

Plasti dip feels sort of like primer after it has dried a few days. It doesn't really feel like rubber. But not as smooth as paint with clear coat over it. The black is a flat black. It pulls off easily but takes a little effort to get it started. That's a good thing. You want it to stick pretty good so that it doesn't come off when you wash it. My front vents have been on over 2 months now and they have no sign of wear. I stopped worrying about them and now I just wash them with a sponge and soap and water. I rub them hard enough to get the bugs off.

To remove it you just start at a corner and roll it back with your finger, Once you have enough pulled back you can grab it and just start peeling it off in a big sheet if you pull slowly.

My wheels are all painted now. I had one that was plasti dip for about 3 months and it held up great. Then I just peeled it off and painted the wheel.

If you are interested in this stuff I would just go get a can and play around with it. You really can't mess anything up. You could tape off a section of your daily driver and try it on that first. Or even try it on your washer/dryer or refrigerator.LOL. As long as it's smooth ,tape off a section, just spray it on, let it dry, then peel it off.

Have fun.
