My 99, 6-speed convert most of the time now won't start. I've had 2 mechanics work on it and spent $1,400 and it still won't start. New starter, new battery, some kind of switch installed to eliminate safety issues in steering column. Took it to local Chevy dealer and he says it needs a "bcm" (body control module) / it costs another $1,800 plus labor. Has anyone had a similar problem? Is these rebuilt bcm's any good, they cost $495? You get in car and sometimes it starts / like 10 times in a row. Then you get in and it takes 25 minutes to start. Just walk away and come back in 15 minutes and it usually starts. Go thru locking and turning off the horn when it goes off and sometimes it starts. Sometimes you can't turn the horn off by inserting the key, you have to use the automatic unlocker(key bob). Any ideas would be appreciated.
search the for sale section..... you should be able to find a bcm from someone there parting out a car alot cheaper . try Marc at vettenutts a vendor here
My car does the same thing. But normally it does it after I've washed it or its rained. I recently started cleaning my grounds like Bill Curlee told me to try. To soon to tell if it worked or not. My car is a 99, 6 speed frc
Just installed a rebuilt different BCM and car still won't start. Now so far in a hour I haven't been able to get it to start at all. If I jump the starter, with key "ON" and in neutral. Engine starts and dies immediatley. Any new ideas? Call Rex at 765-603-6820, in Marion, Indiana.

I doubt if anyone can help unless you pull the codes and post them as 8vette7 suggested. Follow the link he posted for instructions. No one can diagnose without more information.
Good Luck. I have a '99 M6 vert and am curious as to what is troubling yours.

From what I understand, your vin no. has to be entered in the used BCM or something like that.
Probably have to get the dealer or someone with Tech 2 for that.
You may have a bad ignition switch or the anti-theft system is faulty. Do like previuosly advised. Pull the codes then post in tech section Bill Curlee in a Master electrcian. However, cleaning all your grounds and checking connections at the battery would not hurt
Good Luck

Get your "new" BCM programmed at the dealer. Among other things, it has to be able to "recognize" your particular physical key code when you try to start the car. It also needs all the RPO codes for your car (found on the sticker inside your glovebox) programmed into it as well for the various options your particular car came with. Programming a replacement BCM is mandatory, not optional.
P.S. Also check to make sure there is no water (condensation) that has backed up inside your HVAC housing due to a plugged drain tube or udders (or both). Water can drip/run down directly onto the BCM if this happens. Water and electricity are not a good mix.
