Steering column locked up and then I got a "service column lock" msg.
After trying many internet suggestions, the only one that worked was using a hammer to lightly tap the electronic control box, (just behind the steering wheel on the right side) while turning the key to the run position. This unlocked the column. I then used the column lock bypass from corvettes of Houston. The problem is fixed and saved myself who knows how much money by not having a dealer probably do the same thing.
Once the column is unlocked, make sure not to turn the wheel because it may lock up again.
Connect the bypass lead with the lighter plug to the wires leading to the control in the steering column and plug it into the cigar lighter. You should hear the column unlock. Unplug it and connect the bypass chip/unit to the main lead under the dash. Worked for me.
